A young man was walking through a supermarket to pick up a few things when he noticed an old lady following him round. Thinking nothing of it, he continued.
Finally he went to the check out line, but the old lady got in front of him. "Excuse me," she said, "I'm sorry if my staring at(盯着看) you has made you feel uncomfortable. It's just because you look like my son, whom I haven't seen for a long time."
"What a pity," replied the young man, "Is there anything I can do for you?"
"Yes." she said, "as I'm leaving, can you say ‘Goodbye, mother!'? It would make me feel so much better."
"Sure,"answered the young man. So when the old woman was leaving, he called out, "Goodbye, mother!"
As he stepped up to the check-out counter(收银台), he saw that his total was $127.50. "How can that be?" he asked, "I only buy a few things!" The clerk replied, "Your mother said that you would pay for her."
Last Friday a storm swept through two villages in the New Territories, destroying(摧毁) fourteen homes. Seven others were so badly damaged(破坏) that their owners had to leave them, and fifteen others had broken windows or roofs(屋顶). Several persons were badly hurt and taken to hospital, and a number of other people received smaller hurt. Over two hundred people were homeless after the storm.
A farmer, Mr. Brown, said that the storm began early in the morning and lasted for over an hour. "I was eating with my wife and children when we hcard a loud noise," he said,"A few minutes later our house fell down on top of us. We tried our best to climb out but then I saw that one of my children was missing. I went back inside and found him, safe but very afraid. "
Mrs. Stuart said that when she felt that her house was moving, she ran outside at once with her children.
"There was no time to take anything," she said,"A few minutes later, the roof came down."
The welfare department brought them food, clothes and shelters after the storm.
Four years ago when I was a boy of 11, I got into the biggest trouble as a kid. It was a Saturday morning. Both my parents were out, leaving me and my 10-month-old sister alone. Anyway, my sister was still asleep in her room. In fact, I had the house to myself. I decided to do some drawing. Soon I gave up. Nothing was on TV, so I felt bored and touched the candles on the shelf ... I had an idea! What would happen if I set fire to some kitchen paper? Well, of course it went on fire, but it wasn't the tiny flame(火苗) I'd expected, and I couldn't blow it out. I threw it on the floor, and then luckily got my dad's boots(靴子) and stamped it out.
I thought I was safe until there was a huge hole in my room. When my mom came home later, she smelt the smoke immediately. She dropped the shopping bag, luckily for me, over the hole. I thought this meant she would never see it. However, after running round the house checking(检查) for a fire, she of course picked up the bag and saw the hole. Next I was grounded(关禁闭) and in trouble for months. Though four years has passed, the hole was still there, reminding me of what I did.
On the night of August 8, while I was reading a book, a terrible earthquake happened. The 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Jiuzhaigou County of southwest Sichuan Province at 9:19 p.m. on August 8th, 2017.
Twenty-five people died and more than 500 people got injured(受伤) in the earthquake. Eleven of the dead are tourists and thirteen are local people. The identity (身份)of the rest one was not yet known.
The seriously injured people were sent to the Sichuan Provincial Peoples Hospital. Thousands of volunteers hurried to the earthquake area to help and save the injured people. Lots of people gave away money for them.
Jiuzhaigou is a popular tourist attraction with beautifulnaturalscenery in the mountains. It is known as the fairyland on the earth. Every year, a large number of people including foreign tourists go there for a visit.
When the earthquake happened, lots of tourists with their children were spending their holiday there, as it was summer vacation. It's reported that a 12-year-old girl from Wuhan lost both her parents in this earthquake. When I heard the news, I was very sad. May the dead rest in peace. Hope all the injured people can recover(恢复) from the sadness and pains in the earthquake soon.
A nine-year-old boy is (sit) at his desk. Suddenly, there is a puddle(水坑) b his feet and the front part of his pants is wet.
He thinks his heart is going to stop because it has never happened before. He knows that when his classmates find out they will laugh him.
The boy puts his head down and prays (祈祷) to God,"Dear God, I need help now!" He looks up and sees the teacher (walk) towards him. It seems that the teacher has already found his problem. A classmate named Susie is carrying a gold fish bowl that is filled with water. Susie falls in front of the teacher and throws bowl of water on the boy's pants.
The teacher (quick) takes him downstairs and gives him a pair of dry pants to put . All the other children are busy (clean) up around the boy's desk. They all blame(责怪) Susie for it. She tries to help, b her classmates tell her to get out.
At the end of the day, as they are waiting for the bus, the boy walks over to Susie and says, "You did that (help) me, didn't you?"
Susie says,"I wet my pants once, too."
