Jane was a young girl. She loved to see the negative side of life.
Once, her father took her to the kitchen. He asked Jane to take a potato, an egg1 two spoons of tea leaves. Jane was 2 , and asked her father, "Do you want me to cook?"
"No," her father said.
He then took three pots and 3 some water into each pot. The pots were placed on the stove. Once the water started to boil, he dropped the potato in a pot, egg in 4 one and the tea leaves in the third one.
"Why are you doing all these things?" Jane felt puzzled and asked.
"You'll get the answer in fifteen minutes" said her father.
The impatient daughter tried her best 5 for around 15 minutes.
Now, he placed the two plates, one with the potato and 6 with the egg, and the cup of tea in front of Jane.
Jane asked, "What does it mean, father? I don't understand!"
"Each object faced similar adversities(不幸), but reacted(反应)7 . After we put the potato into boiling water, it became very weak. The soft egg became very hard 8 we put it in boiling water. And the tea leaves changed the water itself, giving it a nice smell. 9 fantastic it is!"
Jane understood that we could create 10 new even when we experienced adversities.
So, what are you? A potato, an egg or tea leaves?

You must have read or heard of the sad love story between Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu. But can you imagine the two singing opera in English instead of speaking poetic Chinese?
Jia and Lin are two characters from the classic Chinese novel A Dream of Red Mansions (《红楼梦》), written by Cao Xueqin (1715-1763). Now the book has been made into an English-language opera. After being performed in San Francisco, US, the performance came to Beijing, Changsha and Wuhan in 2017.
Many of the opera's creators have backgrounds in both Chinese and American cultures, including the director and playwrights (剧作家). Their understanding of both cultures helped them change a Chinese classic into a foreign-language opera.
The book, which covers the rise and fall of the Jia family, has 120 chapters and hundreds of characters. But opera writer David Henry Hwang cut down the number of characters to just seven. Hwang, a Chinese-American, focused on the love story between Jia and Lin and tried to write a heartbreaking tragedy that everyone would understand.
The art director Timmy Yip, from Hong Kong, tried to help foreign people understand the characters using costumes and stage settings. He compared Lin to water and gave her a light green costume. When Lin showed up on stage, there was usually water around her on the stage.
The creators considered it to be a meaningful job to introduce a Chinese classic to Westen audiences. Hwang told China Daily he was happy to "have made a contribution to the land where my parents were born."
When you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they will become weak. When you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory (记忆) works in the same way.
When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong.
If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault (过错). But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents may be blamed (责备 ) , and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever found that some people can't read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write but they have to remember things, they cannot write them down in a small notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories, so their memory is being exercised the whole time.
So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people: practice remembering things in a way as other people do.
Practicing yoga(瑜伽) is a helpful, popular way to keep fit. It has many followers around the world. There are many kinds of yoga. You may have heard of "hot yoga" before. Now, in India, a new kind of yoga, water yoga, is becoming more and more popular among the local people.
In the city of Agra, people practice yoga in water. It is more difficult to practice yoga in water than on land. But practicing yoga in water can be good for your flexibility (灵活性).
Harish Chaturvedi, a lawyer, teaches people water yoga for free even the poor people can learn from him. "Water yoga can become more popular than other kind of yoga, because the body does not get tired so quickly," he said. "Everybody can learn to swim, but if they learn yoga at the same time, they will never feel tired."
"The level of Oxygen(氧气) is very high in water, and you will not have any breathing problem," he added.
Harish believes that water yoga really helps people to keep away from illness. He mainly trains children. He has classes at the swimming pool of a local sports room regularly. Many children are interested in it and come to team from him.
"Harish is very good at performing yoga in water," said Sudhir Narayan, a water yoga student. "He is teaching children free of cost and that is a very good thing."
