Once, there lived a wise man. His son, however, had no goal in life and 1 happy.
As the years 2 , the man was more and more worried. One day, he handed his son a 3 and said, "I want you to go and find a treasure."
The son set out eagerly(急切地). He traveled really far, 4 forests and mountains. Finally, he reached the place and began to dig. He dug and dug, but 5 was found. Tired and sad, he decided to 6 home.
On his way back, he noticed 7 birds and beautiful flowers. He met happy farmers 8 the fields. He found everything 9 !
He got home, and his father asked, "How was your journey to the place? 10 you enjoy it?"
"Of course not! I was worried that someone 11 would find the treasure before I did. But I really enjoyed the journey back home and forgot the pain of not finding the treasure." The son continued to tell his father 12 he noticed on his way back.
"Nice things are always there," the father smiled. "My son, I want you to have a goal. If you don't have a goal, you won't set out. But if the goal is the only thing in your mind, you will miss(错过) 13 nice and won't be happy. So remember: It's 14 to have a goal in life and enjoy the journey 15 . "
Earth Day is on April 22nd every year. Earth Day is a day to remember to take care of our planet, Earth. We can take care of our planet by keeping it clean.
We can keep Earth clean by following the rule of "reduce, reuse, recycle". Reduce means use less. We can reduce our use of things like water or gasoline. Reuse means use again, rather than throw things away. We can reuse many things, such as plastic bags and boxes. Recycle means to make something new from something old. We can keep Earth clean by recycling materials such as paper, wood and plastic. If we take these materials to a recycling center, they can be used again in a different way.
On Earth Day, we remind ourselves and everyone on Earth that we must do these things. We must do these things every day, not just on Earth Day. We must all do our part, and we can make a difference. On April 22nd, remind everyone you know that every day is Earth Day!

Professional writing isn't easy. As a blogger, journalist or reporter, you have to meet several challenges. You have to keep up with the latest developments and at the same time write timely, interesting and unique content. The same goes for scientists, researchers and analysts and other professionals. With floods of information being published on the web every day, things aren't getting easier.
Fortunately, Artificial Intelligence has a few ways to help with professional writing, among which is smart proofreading.
Software sellers have always tried to help writers by adding proofreading features to their tools. But those efforts can slightly anger someone with more-than-average writing skills. However, that is changing as AI is getting better at understanding the context and purpose of the written text. One example is Microsoft Word's New Editor Feature, a tool that uses AI to provide more than simple proofreading. Editor can understand slight differences in your article much better than other tools do. It flags not only grammatical errors and style mistakes, but also the use of unnecessarily complex words and overused terms. For instance, it knows when you're using the word "really" to emphasize a point or to raise a question.
It also gives reasons for its decisions and provides smart suggestions when it considers something as incorrect. For example, if it marks a sentence as passive, it will provide a reworded version in active voice.
Editor has been well received by professional writers, though it's still far from perfect. However, AI-powered writing assistance is fast becoming a competitive market. Grammarly, a grammar checker, uses AI to help with all writing tasks on the web. Atomic Reach is another player, which uses machine learning to provide feedback on the readability of written content.
Languages have been coming and going for thousands of years, but in recent times, there has been less coming and a lot more going. When the world was still populated by hunter-gathers, small, tightly knit ( 联系) groups developed their own patterns of speech independent of each other. Some language experts believe that 10,000 years ago, when the world had just 5 to10 million people, they spoke perhaps 12,000 languages between them.
Soon afterwards, many of these people started settling down to become farmers, and their languages too became more settled and fewer in number. In recent centuries, trade, industrialization, the development of the nation-state and the spread of universal compulsory ( 义 务 的 ) education, especially globalization and better communications in the past few decades, all have caused many languages to disappear, and dominant languages such as English, Spanish and Chinese are gradually taking over.
At present, the world has about 6,800 languages. The distribution (分布) of these languages is hugely uneven. The general rule is that mild zones have relatively few languages, often spoken by many people, while hot, wet zones have lots, often spoken by small members. Europe has only around 200 languages; the Americas about 1,000;
Africa 2,400; and Asia and the Pacific perhaps 3,200, of which Papua New Guinea alone accounts for well over
800. The median number ( 中位数) of speakers is mere 6,000, which means that half the world's languages are spoken by fewer people than that.
Already well over 400 of the total of 6,800 languages are close to extinction, with only a few elderly speakers left. Pick, at random, Busuu in Gameroon (eight remaining speakers), Chiapaneco in Mexico (150), Lipan Apache in the United States (two or three) or Wadigu in Australia (one, with a question-mark); none of these seemed to have much chance of survival.
Usually, when it comes to spring break, ideas like vacations to the beach come to mind. You don't have to do that. A stay-cation means you spend a holiday at home or in your city instead of traveling for a
vacation. A fun stay-cation can be planned with just a little bit of time and effort.
Be a tourist in your hometown.
Think of all the places you'd tell someone to visit your hometown and write them down. Try out some of the things on the list that you've never done before. Go to the local museum, or visit a new restaurant in town that you haven't been to before.
Have a pizza and movie night.
It's not necessary to leave the house to enjoy the stay-cation. Relax and enjoy your time by having a pizza and movie night. You can do this alone or with friends.
Camp in your backyard.
Enjoy the outdoors by camping in your backyard. If you don't have enough space to camp in your backyard, set up a camping area in your living room. Set up a tent and sleeping bags. Set out snacks and drinks.
Take turns telling ghost (鬼) stories.
Spend the week together improving your home. For example, paint every person's room in the house together. Or spend the week building a tree house together.
A. Complete a family project.
B. If you're outside, build a fire.
C. Instead, you can plan a stay-cation.
D. Enjoy the movies and pizza with your favorite drinks.
E. Treat your hometown as if you'd never been there before.
A: Tom, be careful! You almost felt down.
B: Yes, I'm OK. Don't worry.
A: It's dangerous.
B: Thanks, I won't. I was just in a hurry to do the Nucleic Acid Test (做核酸) twice a week.
A:
B: Of course. First, wear the mask and scan the health code.
A: And then?
B: Then, stay in line. Then the doctors will help you.
A: That's easy.
B: Finally, wear your mask again and say thank you. Go home to wait for the result.
A:
B: If the result is negative (阴性).
A: Oh, thank you. I got it.
A. Congratulations, you are safe. B. Are you all right? C. Do you know how to do the Nucleic Acid Test? D. You'd better not look at your phone while walking. E. When it's your turn, open your mouth and hold your breath. F. It's necessary for us to protect ourselves. |
When a thought has found words
Poetry(诗歌) is the forgotten child of literature. Few people read it for pleasure. In Western high schools, poetry is seldom taught because it is considered to be out of date and have little to do with the life of today's students.
In China. however. poetry is still an important part of the curriculum (课程 ). Recently, the Ministry of Education has increased the number of ancient Chinese poems for students to memorize and recite ,from 14 to 22. Why is it important to learn poems?
First of all, poetry is a necessary part of learning traditional Chinese culture. It is a path to understanding your history and your society. It is also the key to understanding the thoughts and feelings that are common to everyone but that we may be unable to express-the joy of Li Bai dancing with the moon, for example. Everyone has feelings of joy, love, loneliness, sadness and even anger, and a good poem can put those feelings into words and bring us self-understanding.
Poems can also express beauty. In a few short lines, even something common can become beautiful. Here is a poem called Fog by Carl Sandberg:The fog comes/on silent haunches(弓腰)/and then moves on.Yes,fog does move smoothly, silently and like a cat, and Sandberg catches that feeling and image (形 象 ) , and makes it beautiful.
Of course, to really enjoy poetry ,it has to be read aloud. After all ,a poem is really just a song without music. Most ancient poetry ,like Homer's Epics(《荷马史诗》)and China's Book of Songs ,was spoken for hundreds of years before it was written.
The American poet Robert Frost said, "Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words. "You are lucky that you now have seventy-two poems to learn!

March 1st should have been the start of the spring term for many middle and primary schools in China. However, to prevent COVID-19 from spreading quickly, of students couldn't go to school. When schools tried their best for the new term, they found a new way of teaching: live streaming(直播).
While teachers were giving lessons in their homes, students were watching them on their computers at home. The online class was just like the offline one. The teacher could ask questions and communicate the students. Some apps even made it for the teacher to see the students. If someone didn't listen carefully, the teacher could even the camera at him or her, liked calling him or her out in front of the whole class. The whole experience was like that in a real classroom.
Many students liked the online classes they were more interesting. Then did all the people have the same idea? Actually, some people didn't think it a good idea. In their opinion, some students didn't listen carefully and it wasn't easy for each teacher to give lessons in this way. Many older teachers found difficult to teach through their mobile phones.
As a new way of teaching, live streaming has its advantages. Unlike traditional classrooms, online ones allow teachers and students to share resources more . They also allow teachers to use more technologies.
I hope that more technologies enter classrooms and teaching more efficient(有效率的). Even if everybody has to stay indoors, people can still work, have classes and do most things at home.
