The 3 to understanding your reading material is to ask questions. Take notes of key information, write down 3 kinds of 4 —how, when and why. Among the questions, the most important one is how you can use the key information. 5 it with the knowledge you've already known. And think about what 6 life problems you can solve by using it. This helps to keep the information in your mind.
Studies show students can understand what they've learned better when they 7 someone else. It 8 4 basic steps. First, study. Second, teach what you've just learned to someone with zero knowledge of the subject in other words. Third, find out which parts you can 9 well and which parts you can't. Go back to the 10 and try to understand the topic once again. Fourth, repeat the steps above until you can explain the topic without looking at the book.

Jingwai Mingde Primary School in Xuanwei, Yunnan Province is a big hit these days. With more than 1,000 teachers and students, the school has got enough food for themselves by offering farming for students. And more surprisingly, it has fed itself for 16 years. How can the school do that?
Jingwai Mingde Primary School itself has 100,000 square meters of farmland. It wants students to do farm work to learn some labor (劳动) skills. So the school gave each class a piece of land to grow vegetables or raise animals. Students do farm work twice a week under the help of their teachers.
There is also a zoo in the school to help students learn more about animals and get along with them. The school also set up a greenhouse with fruit trees for students to get knowledge about plants, instead of listening to teachers in the classroom. Students often go to the zoo and greenhouse so they can learn how to raise animals and grow fruit and vegetables there.
"Children who have not kissed the land will not have a complete childhood (童年)," said school head teacher Lei Yingfei. "The farm labor will build excellent characters that last a lifetime. By working on the farmland, students get a better understanding of life and nature."
Have you made New Year's goals in January or at the beginning of the year? Every time a new year begins, people set out to improve themselves. This tradition started in Babylon about 4,000 years ago.
At that time, the calendar in Babylon was different from the one we have today. Local people saw the Akitu Festival as the beginning of the year. This festival was in late March. It celebrated the rebirth of the sun god Marduk. During the festival, people made promises to work harder in the new year. They thought this would help them to be blessed (祝福) by their god.
The old tradition continues to this day, but does it work well? According to a 2022 report by Timemagazine, about 80% of people give up on their New Year's goals by February. Only 8% continue with their goals for the whole year.
How can we, then, stick to our goals for the new year? Scientist Britt Frank offers her advice. "We often set overly high goals for the future," she said. "In fact, we should honestly consider why we have failed in the past. This will help us make good goals and stick to them better!"
Moving can be stressful for anyone and it can be especially stressful for a nine-year-old, who left his friends and moved to the other side of the country.
At nine, Sangelo and his parents moved from Seattle, WA to Longmeadow. He left his friends, his school, his community and he began playing soccer to adapt (适应) to his new home.
"It helps you develop even more friends and you will be accepted by many people. You are not the new kid any more," Sangelo said. "With the soccer team, you show them your skills and people begin to like you."
Sangelo said soccer had taught him life lessons, such as the importance of teamwork. "You could have the best game of your life and still lose. You have to depend on one another. You push each other because everyone gets better as a unit. We win more, we feel better about ourselves, and friendship then forms," Sangelo explained.
About seven years ago, Sangelo was the new kid. Today, he is a successful student player who gives back to his community by being a referee for younger players. The players all agreed that Sangelo was quite fair and they always accepted the results of matches. Sangelo said the sport had played an important role in his life and he was always thankful for it.
AI now is very smart. It can write an article, create a piece of art, etc. And, it can even read your mind and translate it into text. A new AI tool was developed by a team of scientists in America.
The tool has two main parts, a scanner (扫描仪) and an AI system (系统) called GPT-1. The scanner can record people's brain activity. And GPT-1 works just like Chat GPT and other similar AI systems.
Three volunteers took part in the team's study. Each person spent sixteen hours listening to stories. The people imagined the stories as they heard them. And the scanner recorded their brain activity.
These recordings and the text of the stories were fed into GPT-1. It then made connections between them.
Then came the test: The scientists let the volunteers listen to some new stories. This time, GPT-1 was given only their brain activity recordings. The AI system then wrote out the stories according to the recordings. The results were very similar to the correct answers. The words weren't exactly the same. But they often carried the same meaning.
The scientists say that GPT-1 is the first AI system to turn people's thoughts into words. Some people have lost the ability to speak because of accidents or illnesses. In the future, this technology could be useful to them.
In a small, peaceful village lived a young boy named Alex. Alex loved talking about his big dreams. He spoke of building a beautiful garden that everyone in the village could enjoy. "I'll plant the brightest flowers and the tallest trees!" He would say excitedly.
However, as days passed, the garden remained an empty piece of land. Alex's friends noticed that though he talked a lot about his plan, he seldom did any work. "Talking won't make the garden grow," they talked among themselves.
One day, a new girl, Maya, moved into the village. Unlike Alex, Maya was quiet but always busy. She started working on a small piece of land, and slowly, with her hard work, green plants began to grow. Her actions encouraged others, and soon, the villagers joined in, helping Maya make her tiny land into a beautiful garden.
Alex watched in surprise as the garden grew, realizing that Maya had completed what he had only talked about. From that day, Alex decided to talk less and do more, because Alex learned an important lesson:
