The woman is my mother. She likes all the fruit and vegetables. Apples are her favorite. She makes (制作) food for us in the kitchen (厨房). Do you see a happy boy? Who is he? Well, he is my brother. His name is Bob Miller. Where is he now? He is in his room and e-mails our cousin, Nick. Nick is in Shanghai. You can see a short and fat girl. She is my sister. She doesn't have healthy habits. She likes eating and watching TV all day. Can you find me in the photo? Yes, the boy in a green jacket is me, I like sports and I have much milk, I don't like thinking too much, so I'm always happy.
I love my family. Please let me know about yours.
Mom is a great cook. She started cooking when she was three years old! I know that sounds silly, but she would help her mother cook. And, now I'm helping my mom cook. I like to make chicken the best. Baked (烤的) chicken is my most favorite thing to make. It is also my favorite food to eat. One day, when mom was sick, I tried to make the chicken all by myself. I washed the chicken and put it in a pan in the oven to bake. When the bell rang to tell me the chicken was done, I opened the oven door. Guess what? The chicken was not cooked! I started to laugh. I laughed and laughed! Did you know what I did? I forgot to turn on the oven! The oven! Did you know what I did next? I called on the telephone for pizza to come to our house. Mom was happy that I "cooked" by myself. She was happy that we could eat the pizza together. Guess what? We will have chicken some other night.
We were going to play against a team from a country school. They didn't come until the last minute. They looked worse than we had thought. They were wearing dirty blue trousers and looked like farm boys.We sat down for a rest. We felt that we didn't need any practice against a team like that.
The game began. One of us got the ball and he shot a long pass to our forward (前锋). From out of nowhere a boy in an old T-shirt stopped the ball and with beautiful style, he shot and got two points. Then another two points in a minute. Soon the game was all over. We were beaten by the country team.
After that, we thought a lot. We certainly learned that even though your team is very good, you can't look down upon the others and still need to do you best. And the most important lesson we learned was: One can't judge (判断) a person or a team only by their clothes.
"It is never too late and you are never too old to start something new!" says Englishtown student Ellen Rema. Ellen began to learn English at the age of sixty, and in just a few years, she has made great progress!
Ellen chose to study on Englishtown because no evening classes were offered in the German country side where she lives. On Englishtown, she has conversation classes online and speaks with native English-speaking teachers
"Englishtown is a wonderful place for study," she says. Ellen began with the first level of Englishtown and quickly progressed. "I spent hours and hours studying," she said. "Maybe I wanted too much in a short time. I finished all my courses after 2 years, but I still had grammar difficulties."
Instead of giving up, she chose to continue. After another two years on Englishtown, she's still studying in the online classroom. "Studying online is never boring, but you need d practice, practice, practice!"
Ellen says studying English isn't all about hard work. It should a so be fun. I really like the online conversation classrooms," "I have learned so much about other cultures and traditions."
Ellen has be enable to put her English to use by visiting England five times! "I'm very thankful to Englishtown because my life has improved because of it." Ellen says.
"She is not only my mom but also myself."
"I wish we could be mother and daughter again in the next life."
"For as long as I can remember, my mom has been a middle-aged woman, but no one told me she used to be a young girl."
Directed by comedy actress Jia Ling, the movie Hi, Mom comes from her sketch(短剧)comedy of the same name and reflects(反映)how much she misses her mother Li Huanying. Interestingly, the way that Jia shows her filial piety(孝心)is a bit special as she made up a time-travel story.
The movie stars Jia Ling as a daughter who finds herself transported back to 1981. Deeply saddened by her mother's death, Jia Ling meets her mother again in the movie and tries to improve her mother's life by using ideas from the future. While drunk, Jia says she feels useless for not being able to make her mother proud. But the mother says her greatest wish is that her daughter can be healthy and happy.
Jia Ling described Hi, Mom as a tribute(致敬)to her mother who passed away around twenty years ago. The movie has brought tears to a lot of moviegoers' eyes. It also causes online conversations on the topic of mother-daughter relationships, with people sharing old photos of their own mothers at a young age.
Many people thought this movie was a comedy full of laughter, but they couldn't help crying in the end. Li Huanying in the movie is the epitome(缩影)of millions of mothers in our real life. She is ordinary but selfless, giving her child endless warmth and strength without asking for anything in return.
Today, while I was shopping, a kind worker surprised me with a beautiful bunch of flowers. It was an unexpected act of 1 that showed me the power of simple words.
2 years earlier, I was going through chemo(化疗) and felt 3 and down. My husband and children were busy on weekdays, 4 I always stayed at home alone. Then I often bought some daily things for my family 5 Internet online. Before paying money, I would 6 notes like "Hope you're having a good day!" or "Thank you for your hard work." The notes are for the workers who packed our goods (货物), though I don't know them. Today, I 7 found myself face-to-face with one of the workers who had 8 our goods in the past. I walked up to her and said, "Thank you so much for packing goods! You usually packed our goods carefully. You and your workmate are fantastic!" She stopped for a 9 and then asked my name. When I told her my name, she said, "Oh, you are the lady who always leaves notes for 10 !" She told me that the words on the notes truly cheer up all the workers, especially during the 11 times of the epidemic (疫情). It was surprising to hear that such small acts of kindness could 12 people around me.
When I turned to leave, she was 13 to me with a bunch of flowers, thanking me for cheering them up with my kind words. I 14 thought that my simple acts could play a role in someone's life. Even 15 as simple as saying thank you or leaving a kind note can encourage someone's spirits. Three years has passed and it still makes them feel valuable and thankful.
In England, traffic keeps on the left. Cars, buses and bikes all [mu: v] on the left side of the road. But the traffic keeps on the right in China. So when you are in England, you must be very (care) in the street. Before (cross) the road you must stop and look both ways. Look right and look left and look right again. If the traffic lights are red, the traffic must . Then pedestrians (行人)—the people on can cross the road. If the traffic lights are green, the traffic can go.
In the morning and in the evening, when people go to or [rɪ'tɜːn] from work, the traffic is very busy. It is very dangerous.
When you go by bus in England, always remember (记住) the traffic (go) on the left. If you don't have a look, you will go the [rɒŋ] way.
In many English (city), there are big buses two floors. You can sit on the second floor, From there you can see the city very well. It's very interesting.
—Mm, it (smell) delicious.
