Dear Jordon, I don't know how to chat (聊天) with my classmates because we do not share the same interests. We don't have anything to talk about. I am very lonely. What should I do? Jenny |
Dear Jenny, To make friends, you must first be friendly. You can smile. You can pay your classmates a compliment (称赞). Say something nice about their dressing styles or skills. Second, ask a question to start chatting. Find out what interests them and talk about that, even if it doesn't interest you a lot. The conversation is more important than the topic. Finally, talk to more people. Say hello to the people you meet. Don't be nervous and talk to them. I believe you will do better in the future! Jordon |
When most people think of "beautiful", they think of movie stars. I used to be one of them. But now my opinion of beauty has completely changed.
I was with my parents and little brothers at the McDonald's (麦当劳). Because there are only tables with four chairs, I'm always the one to sit at a nearby table by myself. Usually, I'm a little unhappy, but not this time.
A woman was sitting at a table, two tables away. She was young and pretty, not the traditional (传统的) beauty, but a warm one. She had thick dark-brown hair and wore common clothes, but none of those was why she was so beautiful to me.
Her children spread the ice-cream all over their clothes, and she just kissed them and that's all. She didn't get angry. The love and warmth this woman generated (产生) completely changed my view of beauty. She generated warmth like the sun, and her children were little planets (行星) around her.
She made a difference to her children's lives. Instead of making them feel bad about themselves, she made them feel great about everything. That is true beauty: to make a positive (积极的) difference to others' life through warmth and caring.
Every Wednesday evening, a group of runners in Shanghai get together and have their 5-to-8-kilometer run in the city. This is not an ordinary (普通的) run. The runners take rubbish bags with them and pick up rubbish when they run.
"Make running more than just running," Kate Sogor, one of the runners, says. She wears a blue T-shirt with "WE RUN FOR RUBBISH" on the back. Besides (除……以外) the weekly runs, the group also has family runs once a month. Children and even pets can take part in the activity.
Sogor says there are more than 200 rubbish runners from all walks of life in the city, such as office workers, yoga teachers and restaurant owners. Over 90 percent of the group members are Chinese. The oldest are in their 40s, and the youngest is just 5.
"I feel great to make the Earth cleaner," says an 8-year-old boy. He joined the group last month with his parents.
Rubbish Running came to Shanghai in 2018. There are groups in 16 cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing, Changchun and Wuhan. More than 9,300 runners run and make the cities clean.
For kids, mornings can be busy. Sometimes, you do not have breakfast because you do not have time. There are good reasons to make sure you eat a healthy breakfast every day.

One day, he found a wallet in the street he was walking. Bill didn't put it into bis own bag. Instead, he returned it to its (own) Mr. Black. And Mr. Black thanked him by (offer) a job in his toy factory. Bill was (excite) about the job. So he made a decision to work hard there.

Computers are good tools. The Internet is also good. But some people spend too much time online. They can't stop. Doctors say this is a new sickness(疾病). They call this sickness IAD (互联网成瘾症).
People with IAD are online a lot. (A)They often spend hours chatting with friends or playing online games. Many people with IAD spend more time on the Internet than with family and friends. Besides, some people with IAD even drop their jobs!
Do you have IAD? Think about these questions: How many hours a day are you online? When you are not online, are you thinking about playing computer games or checking your messages? When you are online, do you forget the time? Do you get angry when you can't play a game?
If you have IAD, what can you do? Dr. Ivan Goldberg and Dr. Kimberly S. Young have some ideas. First, ask yourself "Why am I online a lot? " Then try to take breaks. For example, if you want to have a good social life (社交生活) with other friends, you can use the computer or play games on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday every week. (B)这样,你就可以和其他朋友有一个良好的社交生活。
