Kate's dream of helping poor people started when she was visiting her father, who worked for the homeless (无家可归的).
"I never knew that there were so many people in the world who didn't have home or foodbefore,"Said Kate, a university student."I got to know that there was something important I had to do."
At the age of 14, Kate started to raise money with her friends to build a playground."It took us two years,"She said,"We did it little by little. We hoped our efforts could help make a difference."
In 2016, when Kate was 16, she visited some places in Africa. She saw many people going hungry and families living in houses made of cardboard (硬纸板)."The rooms were smaller than my bedroom, but there were eight people living in each one,"Kate said."We also found some dirty rivers. Those people got drinking water from them."The next year, Kate set up a club with her friends. It helped poor people in Africa.
Giving clean drinking water, food and clothes to the people living in poor areas is now an important task for Kate's club."This girl is changing some people's lives, and she is also changing the world,"Said Kate's teacher.

Last year, a few ladies took photos in Xunpu and shared them online. In the photos, their hair was tied into buns (发髻) and they wore wreaths (花环). There are fresh, plastic or silk flowers worn on the wreaths. The photos were widely spread online. Many tourists started to come to this village. In less than six months, the number of zanhua stores grew from less than 10 to more than 150. Zanhua became a hot topic in China.
The tradition of wearing flowers has a long history, dating back to the Tang Dynasty. Xunpu is a small fishing village. In this area, the main task for women is keeping house while men go fishing. Wearing flowers makes it easier for women to work without being bothered (干扰) by their long hair. They also express their wish for happiness. And the flowers are seen as asymbol (象征) of hope. Xunpu is also famous for its good seafood. When women villagers selltheir seafood at the market, they also put flowers in their hair. This way, buyers can tell them from sellers in nearby villages.
The tradition is also seen at happy events. People wore flowers during outings, festivals and weddings. Villagers send out invitation cards along with flowers. In turn, their women guests wear the flowers to the events.
"Wearing flowers in this life, beautiful in the afterlife."Eye-catching traditional headdressboosts tourism in Xunpu. The growth made villagers happy. That's because it not only keeps the business busy but also helps spread the history and culture behind zanhua headwear. Zanhua became a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008.
AI is not just about writing texts or making pictures any more. Open AI has made a new tool (工具) called Sora. With just a sentence, it can make your words turn into a video (视频). The video looks good and closely follows what you want it to show.
Sora is better than many other tools that do similar things. It can make videos that fit different screens (屏幕), like big TVs or the screens on our phones. This means it can make many kinds of videos. It also lets people try out their ideas in a simple video before making abetter one, which makes things faster.
What's really cool about Sora is how it can make videos look real and smooth. It can show places with people, movements, and backgrounds, even changing the scene in the same video. Sora knows how things should look like in the real world. For example, if a woman walks by water, you can see her reflection (倒影) change.
Sora works so well because it has a helper named Chat GPT. Chat GPT can turn simple sentences into instructions, making the videos closer to what people want.
But Sora isn't perfect. It might feel puzzled with difficult movements or how things change after an action. For example, if someone bites (咬) a cookie in a video, the cookie might not look right. Sora might also mix up left and right or get the order of events wrong. This might happen because Sora learns about videos piece by piece and doesn't always know how they fit together.
Right now, Sora is still being tested. Open AI is asking people who know a lot about Internet safety to try and find problems with Sora to make it better. They've also let some artists and movie makers try Sora so they can give advice on how to improve it.

Oil paper umbrellas have a history of over 1,000 years in China. The umbrellas were everywhere before. However, as umbrellas with metal ribs (金属伞骨) (become)more popular in the 1800s, people used the hand-made umbrellas less in daily life.
Yuhang in Hangzhou is famous for making oil paper umbrellas over 230 years. Umbrellas here take more than 70 steps to make, such as making bamboo ribs and pasting (糊)papers. It takes at least a week to make umbrella. each umbrella has 36 ribs, they are strong. In 2007, this kind of umbrella was added to Zhejiang province's intangible cultural heritage list.
In 2015, Liu Weixue left a well-paid job to learn from his grandfather the art of making Yuhang oil paper umbrellas. "I want to bring the art to life." Liu said. "When it (rain),someone uses the umbrella -- that's what I want to see."
After learning the skills well, Liu opened a studio (工作坊) and improved the umbrellas to win the hearts of young (person). Because the traditional paper was easy to break, he used thicker paper. His umbrellas could open and close 1,000 times without (break). He also used a lighter kind of bamboo to make ribs, so the umbrella weighed (little)than before.
In 2017, Liu opened an online shop to sell umbrellas by (he). It has more than 80,000 followers (粉丝) now. But to keep the quality (质量), his studio makes only 1,000 umbrellas each year. He (real) hopes the art can be passed on.
