● Wild elephants can solve puzzles
Recently scientists have found that wild elephants can solve puzzles with no training after the elephants in zoos were seen solving problems.
Researchers at a wildlife area in Thailand set up puzzle boxes with three compartments (间隔). Each compartment was filled with jackfruit and opened in a way. By using cameras, the scientists watched 77 Asian elephants to see what they would do. By the end of the , they found that 11 elephants were able to get the fruit from one compartment, eight got into two compartments, and five solved all three puzzles to get the treats.
Elephants that returned to try the boxes several times had the most success. Researchers say the ability to solve problems can help the animals in changing environments. And understanding how they do this could help scientists protect them in a better way.

Do you have trouble choosing a book to read? With so many choices it can be hard to decide which books are right for you. Here are some tips of choosing the ones you're more likely to enjoy.

Thinking about stories you've enjoyed in the past can give you clues about what genres① you prefer. Maybe you like science fiction, which transports you to completely made-up worlds. Or perhaps you like historical fiction, made-up stories based on true events. Nonfiction is another choice. Think about the topics that interest you or an interest you have and want to know more about.

You can visit the library and ask a librarian to guide you to the shelves that feature the genre you'd like to dive into. Another idea is to ask friends with similar tastes what books they have liked and would recommend. You can also find a list of recommendations from the Internet.

On 4 June 1913, a woman called Emily Davison① went to a horse race, threw herself under the king's horse and later died from her injuries. A1 which said "Votes for women" was found in her pocket. All her life, Emily had been fighting for women's rights. She was a suffragette, part of a group of women who started working together in 1903 to 2 equal rights for women. A pack rat① named Poncho had a big storeroom for all his things. Every day, Poncho went outside. He came back with leaves for lunch, seeds for supper and other things to f his storeroom.
One day, as Poncho was walking, he saw a shiny golden spoon. He picked up the spoon and took it home.
"Oh no," said Poncho, looking around his storeroom. "There's no s for my spoon. I'll have to move things around to find a place for it." But he failed.

It was Saturday that day. Luke was wearing his basketball clothes, waiting for his chance to play but until last week, nobody asked him to play. Although the 18-year-old student does well in playing basketball, his coach wouldn't like to bring Luke into play. This is because it isn't easy for Luke to see things even when he wears glasses.
