Once upon a time,Yu the Great(大禹)cut a mountain with his big magic knife and made a way. It was later called the Dragon Gate, a place with magic. The Yellow River ran through it.
Every spring, water ran from the top of the mountain into the river. The water was so noisy that it scared all the animals on the mountain, but the carps (鲤鱼)were not afraid. Though small, the carps were very brave. They dreamed of making their way to the Dragon Gate. There, a miracle was waiting for them.
The carps tried to jump the Gate, but most failed, and there left only one little golden carp. He jumped higher and higher, and he jumped to the highest point over the river. Finally, he jumped across to a cloud. He had made it to the Dragon Gate! He could see the colorful sky, he could touch colorful clouds.
As soon as he succeeded, the little carp felt strange. He looked back at his own tail and found it grew and sparked(冒火花)and it was on fire! Suddenly,it began to rain heavily. The rain put out the fire on the carp's tail.
The little carp looked back again. His fishtail was gone, his body changed, and golden scales(鳞) covered him. He was not a fish any longer, instead,he turned into a golden dragon!
