In the spring and autumn period (771~476 BC), there was a beautiful girl in the State of Yue. Her name was Xi Shi. She was the most beautiful girl in her village. There was an ugly girl named Dong Shi and she lived in the village, too.
Xi Shi was such a beautiful girl that many girls try to imitate (模仿) her. Some girls wore the same clothes as Xi Shi did. Some girls had the same hairstyle as Xi Shi did. Dong Shi was one of the girls.
One day, Xi Shi walked on the street. She didn't feel well on the way. She had a pain in her chest (胸口), then she put her hand on her chest, knitted her brows (皱眉) and walked slowly.
Dong Shi met Xi Shi on the street. She thought Xi Shi's actions made her look more beautiful. Then she imitated Xi Shi's actions. She thought it could make her look as beautiful as Xi Shi. But she was wrong. In fact, her actions made her uglier. People laughed at Dong Shi when they saw her.
In some western countries, many children do chores to get pocket money. They usually start to do this when they are ten years old.
School students have to do homework and study for tests. They don't have much free time on weekdays. So they often do chores on weekends.
Young kids only do easy chores. So they don't get much money. But that's enough. Many of them only want to buy candies. And candies are cheap! They often help do the dishes, sweep the floor, or feed the pet cat or dog.
When they get older, they want to buy more and more things. They want things that are more expensive than candies. So they have to do some hard housework! They often help their parents wash the family car, cut the grass, or cook meals.
Doing some chores is good for kids to learn new things. For example, they can learn how to use a lawnmower (割草机) or how to cook. Of course, doing housework together can bring families closer, too.

Gao Defu is a student in a small village in Guizhou. He used to go hungry or have only a little food for lunch at noon. But now, Gao and his classmates have better food and vegetable dishes for free every day because of the Free Lunch Program.
The program was started by Deng Fei, a reporter at the Phoenix Weekly (《凤凰周刊》). Early this year, Deng met Gao Defu's teacher Xiao Yu. Xiao Yu told Deng Fei that lots of students in her school didn't have lunch to eat, when they felt hungry, they even drink water to lessen their hunger.
Deeply shocked, Deng decided to do something for the kids in the poor areas. He posted a message on his microblog (微博) saying he wanted to build a canteen (食堂) at Xiao's school. The message soon got the support of thousands of people around the country. With their help, the Free Lunch Program finally set up.
Now more and more volunteers took part in this program. One lunch for one child cost 3 yuan in the poor areas. People can donate (捐赠) for a meal, a month's worth of meals, or a year's worth of meals for children on the Internet. In half a year, the program has raised more than 1,600,000 yuan, providing (提供) free lunches for poor students in 77 schools.
