When I was a small boy, I used to ask my mum for help when I met 1 .
But she always said, "Do it yourself, dear."I would get so angry. I thought she was the 2 mother in the world!
One noon, a friend of mine phoned me, "Tom and I will 3 you this afternoon." I was worried a lot. My bedroom was a mess. So I asked my mother to help me clean it. But she said 4 , "Don't you remember I have told you many times to do your things all by yourself?" I had no choice (选择) but to clean my bedroom by myself 5 my friends would come soon. I tried my best to make my bedroom 6 . It was really hard to do everything all by myself, but I learned a lot. As time went by, I began to 7 my mother. Now I have realized that I shouldn't always 8 her. It is her "laziness" that has made me diligent(勤奋的).Just as my mum 9 says, "Work can make you clever and sunny!"
Thanks to my mother, I have learned to do many things all by myself. I will 10 the four words "Do it yourself, dear." forever. What a great mother I have!
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is written by Mark Twain. The story happens in a town of the US in the nineteenth century. It tells about a boy who has many unusual experiences.
Tom, the hero(主人公) of the book, is a lively and clever boy. He doesn't like people telling him what to do, so he always gets into trouble. He and his best friend, Huck Finn, run to an island in Mississippi River. Tom has more trouble because a bad man is looking for him. Later, he runs away from a cave (山洞) with a girl called Becky. It took five tries and forty years for Xia Boyu, an amazing climber, to get to the top of the world.
On his first Qomolangma try in 1975, Xia got frostbite(冻疮) and had to have his feet—and later legs—amputated (截肢).
Xia went back again in 2014, 2015 and 2016. On that last try a strong snowstorm forced him to turn back less than 100 meters from the top.
"It's been a dream of mine for more than 40 years," Xia said. In 2018 Xia finally realized his dream, making him the first Chinese double amputee to summit(登顶) Qomolangma. "This time after 43 years, Qomolangma accepted me, finally," he said.
"Climbing the highest mountain in the world with prosthetics (假体) adds another level of difficulty, because it is difficult to feel the ground. Whatever you are standing on, what kind of roads you walk on, whether it is good or bad, they do not give you any feelings. You have to learn it day-to-day, to find the feeling," said Xia. He also said he had to use his body to keep balance as prosthetics cannot walk up and down like real legs. "I have to be stronger than others," he added.
"I have learned from my journey to the top that you should move forward bravely no matter what conditions you face. Never give up on your dream," said Xia.

①What is doodling? It means drawing something in a simple unplanned way. You might draw a cartoon character on a wall. Perhaps you draw a picture when you are listening to music. It doesn't matter what you draw and there is no right or wrong way to do it.
②Doodling is relaxing because you don't have to make your creation perfect. Joe Whales, who is famous for doodling, says, "When I doodle, I feel I'm the happiest person in the world. I enjoy it because I can express(表达) myself freely—there are no rules in doodling."
③Another good thing about doodling is that it is easy to do. All you need is some paper and a pencil or pen.
④Doodling can also help people take in more information. A study found that those who doodled while listening to a long telephone message remembered more information than those who didn't.
⑤What's more, doodling can help people work out what makes them special. During a school visit, Cath Howe, a writer, asked pupils to draw some squiggles(弯弯曲曲的线条). Then they could fill in the spaces inside the squiggles with some words. The words described things they cared about, such as people, animals, food and hobbies. "The pupils really enjoyed doing it. Everyone doodled in their special way. I learned a lot about the pupils from it," Howe said.
⑥Doodling is not only interesting but also very meaningful. Would you like to have a try?
