Dear Sunday Globe,
I am writing to tell you about your passage Smartphones Make Life Easier in last Sunday's newspaper. You did a very good job explaining the good points of smartphones, but you didn't
their bad points at all. So, I hope you'll let me give your readers some on smartphone etiquette. The first point I'd like to address is loudness. When you talk on your smartphone in public, please don't shout. In fact, the microphones in smartphones are very sensitive. So, you can be heard even if you speak .
Another point is about personal space. I don't think it is polite to make calls in small space full of people. This makes others uncomfortable and forces them to listen to your personal business. What's worse, it stops many face-to-face from ever beginning.
Lastly, doing two things at the same time is dangerous. For example, making calls while driving is a bad habit. Pay attention to the road! Similarly, when staying with your friends, your smartphone and enjoy yourselves.
Yours truly,
Amber Jala

Roy is a 12-year-old boy from California, US. He weighs 147 pounds (67kg). But six months ago, he weighed more than 202 pounds (91kg). How did he lose all that weight in only half a year?
"One day, I was surprised to find that I weighed about 200 pounds," Roy says. "I thought I had to do something. " Roy is from a boxing family — his father and two elder brothers are professional boxers. So he decided to start boxing. He began with easy exercise, like sit-ups and push-ups. Then Roy started jogging. "No kids like running," he says. "I don't want to do it, either, but I have no choice but to keep on. "
Months later, Roy joined a boxing club in his city. He is always the first kid at the club to begin exercising, and the last to leave with sweat on his face. Every day he boxes for about three hours. "Roy works very hard," says his coach, Hector Lopez. "It's surprising to see him lose the pounds so quickly. I've never seen anything like this in my 20 years of coaching. "
Roy is very happy with his weight now. There is a family photo in his room from 18 months ago. "Each time I look at the photo, I laugh at myself. I was so big back then. " Roy says. "I look 100 times thinner and 1,000 times stronger now. "
Mr. Evans lived in a city. He was a maths teacher three years ago. His students liked him. He decided to work in the middle school all his life. But a terrible accident 1 his life.
One spring he took his class to visit an interesting place. The children saw a lot of 2 things. But on their way to school, a truck hit their bus because the young driver was drunk. Five students

One afternoon it was very hot. Mr. Evans was 5 . He was standing at the crossing. Suddenly he saw a car rushing towards the crossing. It ran so fast that it almost hit a man on a bike. He stopped it at once and saw a girl in it.
" 6 your license to me, Madam," said Mr. Evans.
The girl gave her bag to him and said, "Please look for it in the bag yourself. I can't see anything without glasses. "
Reading books is a good hobby for all kinds of reasons.
First, reading books is f. You can always keep yourself happy if you like reading. This is especially useful when the weather is bad. It is a relaxing hobby too. You can really become lost in a book.
Next, you can read a book anywhere: in a car, in a waiting-room, on a plane, in bed — even in the bath. All you need is a book! Reading is a convenient hobby as it is e to stop and then start again.
Another good reason for reading books is that it is useful. If you read as a hobby you will get better and better at it. This m that you will read faster and will become better at understanding what you read. As your reading improves, you will probably find your schoolwork becomes much easier. Many school subjects depend on good reading and, as you read, you learn more and more.
Some people say that reading is out of date(过时). This is not true. You have to be able to read to use a computer and, the better you read, the better your computer skills will be. Reading is n out of date!
Good readers are most likely to be good writers, too. They are usually good at spelling as well, and have more things to write about. Reading books is a wonderful hobby, one of the best. W other hobbies could be more useful, or more enjoyable?
What kind of vehicle (工具) will you choose when travelling between provinces (省)? Many people may like travelling by train because it's safer and cheaper. Now the high-speed railways have connected (连接) eastern and western China as well as the south and the north.
A new high-speed railway opened on Sept. 10th, 2016. It connects Zhengzhou in Henan Province with Xuzhou in Jiangsu Province. With this railway, China's high-speed railways are over 20,000 kilometres long. It is the world's longest and makes up 60 percent of the world's total (全部的) high-speed railway lines.
Besides length, China also does better in speed. China is the only country with trains running at 350 kilometres an hour, such as the Beijing-Tianjin and Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railways.
With these surprising numbers, it is easy to forget that China wasn't the first in the high-speed rail game. Japan started 50 years ago, while Germany did 20 years ago. China only began to build its high-speed railways 14 years ago.
China's high-speed railways are developing (发展) fast now. Behind it, there is the country's growing need for transportation. China's high-speed trains gave 961 million trips to people last year.
"The high-speed railways not only bridge the distance (距离), but connect people, information and goods," said Huang Xin, an official from the China Railway Corp.
Yet, China's building of high-speed railways is still going on. China plans to have 38,000 kilometres of high-speed railways by 2025.
