But I9 like art and I want to be a(n)10 . I have art on Wednesday.
I asked my dad if I had ever made him cry before because I couldn't remember ever seeing him cry.
"There was once," he said.
He told me that when I was one year old, he put a pen, a piece of paper money and a toy in front of me. He wanted to see which one I would pick. It's a tradition that a lot of Chinese people do when their kids are one year old. According to this tradition, it shows what the kid will value most when he or she grows up. For example, if the kid takes the pen, it means he or she will be an intelligent person in the future. If the kid takes the money, it means he or she will value money more than others and become rich. If the kid takes the toy, it means he or she will like fun things and play a lot.
My father was doing it because he was curious (好奇的). It was interesting for him to see which one I would pick.
He said that I just sat there and stared at the three things. He sat across from me and waited to see the result.
According to him, I moved toward him and he held his breath. Then I pushed everything aside and went right into his arms. Tears (眼泪) came to his eyes. He didn't realize that he was one of the choices.
And that was the first and only time I made him cry.
To Borrow Arrows with Thatched Boats
One day, Zhou Yu ordered Zhuge Liang to make 100,000 arrows(箭)in ten days. Zhou Yu thought it was impossible, but Zhuge Liang said, "Give me three days." Then he asked Lu Su to lend him 20 boats, and the soldiers put some scarecrows(稻草人)in line on the boats. He reminded Lu Su not to tell Zhou Yu what was happening.
When Lu Su came again to see Zhuge Liang, he found nothing unusual. Nothing happened on the second day, either. In the small hours(凌晨)of the third day, Zhuge Liang invited Lu Su for a boat ride. The 20 boats were tied together with strong ropes. Zhuge's fleet went towards the camp of Cao Cao. The surface of the river was covered with thick mist(雾)all over. People could hardly see each other on the river. When Zhuge's fleet got close to the Cao camp before dawn(黎明), Zhuge Liang ordered his soldiers to shout and beat drums heavily to pretend an attack. But Zhuge and Lu Su only sat inside one boat drinking wine to enjoy themselves.
As soon as the Cao camp heard the shouting and drum beating, they mistook it for a surprise attack by the Zhou Yu camp. Since they could see nobody on the river, they had to order 3,000 soldiers to shoot arrows to stop the unexpected attack. The front of the scarecrows was quickly full of arrows. After a while, Zhuge Liang had his fleet turned around to get the other side of the scarecrows to face the Cao camp. When both sides were full of arrows, the day broke. Zhuge Liang ordered his soldiers to return. The soldiers shouted in excitement, "Thank you, Cao Cao, for your arrows." After they got back to their camp, they collected more than 100,000 arrows in total from the scarecrows.
Once there were four beggars (乞丐). One day, they met at an old temple at night. They were very upset because none of them had much to eat.
"I only got this piece of meat today." the first said. "I almost got nothing," the second said, "I just picked up a potato outside the vegetable store during the day." The third said that all he had was a small bottle of salt. The fourth beggar had not done much better, "I only got some old beans, but they aren't very nice!"
As they sat around the fire, the beggar with only a bottle of salt had a great idea "Let's put all our things together and boil them. In this way, we can make a tasty dish and share it." They all agreed. However, the first beggar thought, "I don't want to share. I'll just pretend to throw my meat into the pot. They'll never know and I'll eat my meat alone later." So he pretended to put the meat into the pot. And at the same time the other beggars had similar ideas to him. At that time, the temple was too dark for the beggars to see what the others were doing.
Finally, one of them suggested that the dish should be ready and, in turn, each of them helped himself to it. They drank the hot water in silence, learning that selfishness (自私) doesn't taste all that good.
China is a nation with a rich culture in handwriting (书法). "Even though the computer is (wide) used today, Chinese people should not forget the skill of writing with hands," said a Chinese government officer.
So far, the computer (become) a very useful tool to help people to write. As people use computers more often than before, many people have forgotten how to write Chinese characters (字). People often makes plenty of (mistake) in writing.
The Chinese character test shows that nowadays, many college students' handwriting has got even (bad). Many college students do not know how to make words or sentences in Chinese character in the right way. Not only kids but also many adults have met same problem. They might be able to tell the general form of a certain character. However, you ask them to spell out the character correctly, they can't. On the other hand, they can type out the character on a computer without thinking (two).
At present, China is trying its best (solve) this problem. With the use of certain technologies, teachers can write their teaching contents (内容) and the students can reply by writing in the nation language teaching course. We can also write letters our relatives and friends instead of sending messages. This can help (we) practice handwriting. Besides, there are many ways that we can try.
