In April, the world heard some bad news：Japan will dump （倾倒） nuclear （核） wastewater into the sea in two years!The Japanese government （政府） said it was 1 to do this. 2 everyone worries about what will happen if the wastewater enters the sea？It might be dangerous. 

The wastewater will first 3 the sea around Japan and its neighbor countries 4 China and South Korea. It will go to most of the Pacific Ocean in 57 days. And in three years, it will 5 the US and Canada. The sea covers 71% of Earths surface. So the wastewater will go to most parts of the world. The radiation （辐射） could stay in the sea for thousands of years!

Is nuclear power a/an 6 thing？This answer is "No". Nuclear power can 7 us with electricity （电） and heat. It also powers trains, planes and aircraft carriers. 

However, radiation is bad for humans, sea animals and plants. For example, it can cause （引起） some fish to 8 or even die. If you eat these fish, radiation will enter your body, too. Can we eat safe and healthy 9 in the future？Maybe people will 10 eat it if Japan dumps nuclear wastewater into the sea.

It is a small country between China and India. The Tiger's Nest is a famous temple （寺） there. It sits on a cliff （悬崖） that is over 900 meters tall, so it is very difficult for people to visit it. 

Costa Rica, Latin America

People love this country for many reasons. First, Arenal Volcano National Park there is a good place to enjoy the amazing views of an active volcano （活火山）. Second, Costa Rica is home to half a million kinds of animals, such as birds and monkeys. Third, it's a good choice to go surfing. 

Eswatini, Africa

Most of you might not know Eswatini and few people visited this country in the past. But you can know much about the traditional African culture there. Tourists can visit the great palace and see a big ceremony （仪式） inside it. 

Taking public transportation（公共交通） in the United States, you can often see people reading books on their way to school or work. But in China, I rarely （很少的） see people reading during their free time. 

Are people's attitudes toward reading different here？Not really, Data （数据） released by Amazon China in December 2017 show that Chinese people still read a lot. They simply prefer e﹣books over regular books. 

However, other data show that reading is still more popular in the US than in China. Is there a reason for this difference？I'm not sure. What I do know is that China has a rich history of literature （文学） （From classic novels like Romance of the Three Kingdoms（《三国演义》） to the modern science﹣fiction books The Three﹣ Body Problem（《三体》）, Chinese writers have created many fantastic written works. Perhaps the difference starts from childhood. Reading textbooks and doing homework can make you feel quite tired. By the time you finish it, you might not fell like reading for fun. Chinese students definitely （肯定） have to read more and do more homework than US students. So it's no wonder that they might not want to read much in their spare time. 

But learning to love reading can be great. Reading can open doors to places, people and ideas that you cannot imagine. Even just a single book has the power to change your own beliefs and attitudes. Where will your next book take you?

Recently videos of a man dancing have become popular online. He is Ma Jiaolong, a Chinese dancer. Ma has nearly 5 million followers on Douyin, a short﹣ video platform（平台）in China. "I was surprised because I didn't think that the videos would go viral. " says the 35﹣year﹣old dancer. 

Ma began teaching Chinese classical （古典的） dance at Goldsmiths, University of London, three years ago. He started making videos when his teaching job was affected（受影响） by COVID﹣19. Like many other teachers, Ma had to give online classes. Besides teaching, he trained at home for at least two hours a day. However, Ma couldn't make big moves because his home was small. One day, Ma and his wife went to a supermarket and passed Greenwich Park. Ma's wife said to him, "Why not do some dance moves here that you couldn't do at home？" Then Ma jumped off the ground and did a dance move, which was filmed by his wife on her phone. 

"Back home, I sent the video to my friends. To my surprise, they loved it and I decided to share it online, " says Ma. Later, he made more short videos and put them online. 

After Ma's videos got popular, he got lots of messages from people around the world. "Now, making and sharing short videos has become a part of my life. Most importantly, it's a great way to show Chinese classical dance to more people. " says Ma. "It's always been my dream to offer people worldwide a chance to understand traditional Chinese culture. " Ma says. 

Don't be too surprised if you see a car going down the road without a driver in Beijing these days.  Last month. Baidu began to test its self﹣driving cars on open roads in Beijing. 

 Since then, companies like Tesla. Uber and Baidu have been working to produce and test their own self﹣driving cars. 

Self﹣driving cars are safer than regular cars.  They can remove the stress of driving and allow disabled or blind people to get around more easily. 

 In one test. researchers pointed a laser pointer（激光棒） at the car's sensors（传感器） while it was moving. The car mistakenly thought that the laser beam was in its way and slowed down or changed the direction. 

The software that is used to direct the cars may not be safe enough.  When we use our computers or smart phones. they sometimes crash（崩溃） without any reason. But if this happened to a self﹣driving car. the results could be deadly. Improvements to the software could be a solution to this problem. 

The Double Ninth Festival is one of the most important （festival）in China. It is special day for elderly people. It （begin）long ago. The festival is the ninth day of the ninth month in the lunar calendar（阴历）. As the Chinese word for"nine"has the same sound as the word for"long", people take the Double Ninth Festival to send （they）best wishes to elderly people. They do many activities （show）love and respect to the elderly. Generally, people celebrate the day by （spend）time with their older family members and climbing mountains in the hope that the elderly will live much longer. Also, they （usual）drink chrysanthemum wine（菊花酒）and wear a plant called zhuyu as the symbol of warding off evil and wishing for longevity. It is a （tradition）virtue（美德）in China to respect elderly people. That's the Chinese know that elderly people have knowledge and experience that young people can learn from.
