Birthdays are celebrated all over the world. Some traditions are rather similar from one country to another:candles, cakes and birthday wishes. But there are also different ways to celebrate birthdays. Here are a few:
Argentina(阿根廷):In Argentina, as in many Latin American countries, one of the most important birthday parties is a girl's fifteenth. When girls turn 15, they have a huge party and dance first with their fathers, and then the boys at the party.China:The birthday child receives presents from the parents. Friends and family members are invited to dinner, and noodles are served to wish the birthday child a long life.
Denmark(丹麦):A flag is flown outside a window to show that someone who lives in that house is celebrating the birthday. Presents are placed around the child's bed while he is sleeping so he can see them immediately when he wakes up.
Holland(荷兰):The birthday child receives an especially large present. The family also put flowers or balloons on the birthday child's chair to make it beautiful.India:Usually Indian children wear white to school. However, the birthday child wears colored clothes to school and gives out chocolates to everyone in the class. His/Her best friend helps do this.
Japan:The birthday child wears new clothes to mark the special time. Certain birthdays are more important than others and these are celebrated with a visit to the shrine(神殿). These are the third and seventh birthdays for girls and the fifth for boys.
The Chinese lunar calendar(Nongli) is the traditional Chinese calendar and is often used in agriculture(农业). In the Chinese calendar, the beginning of the year falls somewhere between late January and early February.
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, the crescent (新月) appears on the first day of each month and full moon comes out in the middle of the month. The cycle lasts for about 30 days.24 days mark 24 divisions of the solar year in the Chinese lunar calendar, according to the different positions of the sun. For example, the division "Lichun" or "the Beginning of Spring" reminds people that spring is coming. "Jingzhe" or "the Awakening of Insects" means that the weather is getting warmer. "Lixia" or "the Beginning of Summer" is the point that crops are blooming. "Dahan" or "the Major Cold" is the end of severe winter. All these create a circle.
Year after year people experience the mysteries of nature with the Chinese lunar calendar.24 solar terms are helpful for Chinese people to predict the changes of weather in daily life, especially for peasants.
The dates of most of the traditional festivals base on the Chinese lunar calendar. Some countries belonging to the Chinese-character cultural circle, such as Japan, Korea, and Vietnam also celebrate the traditional festivals, such as the Spring Festival(Chinese New Year), the Dragon Boat Festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival and so on.
Although Chinese firstly adopted(采用) the Western calendar in 1912, the Chinese lunar calendar, as one of the most important carriers of Chinese culture, is still widely used among Chinese people.

Drinking chrysanthemum wine is a necessary part of the festival. Chrysanthemums have the function of an antitoxin(抗毒素) and can drive the evil(邪恶) away.
It is said that by climbing to a high mountain diseases can be prevented. Many well-known poems were created to describe the scene and feeling of mountain climbing. Now, family relatives or good friends gather to climb mountains to enjoy the beautiful scenery and share happiness of the holiday with each other.

Some may have lunch or dinner together. Others may hang out or go to the movies with friends on this special day. These are popular among all age groups from teenagers to old people.
