Cold Dew is seen as a turning point(转折点) in the 2 . After entering the Cold Dew, it gets colder in most parts of China and the Dew is greater and colder. The temperature difference between day and night grows larger. That's 3 this time is called Cold Dew. There will be 4 rain, but there will be more fog. Here are two popular 5 during Cold Dew.
●Fishing

Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don't give friendship back. That is why some friendships don't last(持续)very long. To have a friend, you must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat(对待) you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous; be understanding.
Honesty helps start a good friendship. Friends must be able to trust(信任)each other. If you don't tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you are not honest, you may lose your friend's trust. Good friends should always speak and act honestly.
Generosity means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You don't have to give your lunch money, your clothes, or your hobbies. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them, you help your friend know you better.
Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve. Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend's place so you can understand the problem better.
No two friendships are ever exactly alike. But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friendships, you must practice honesty, generosity and understanding.
Zhuhai No. 4 Middle School is in Guangdong, China. It now has 258 students from Tibet(西藏). The students leave their parents in Tibet and come to study in Zhuhai. The school is about 3, 000 km away from their home. It's really hard for them to live a different school life.
Luckily, Chen Geng makes the school another home for these students. Mr Chen is a teacher of Xizang classes at the middle school. He cares a lot about his students. Because of the long journey(旅程), the students only go back to Xizang during the summer holidays. At other times, they just stay at school when other students can go home. To make his students feel better, Chen often spends time with the children, even at Spring Festival.
Chen usually gets to school at 6:30 in the morning. He does morning exercises with the students first. Breakfast begins at 7, and the reading lesson starts at 7:15. He also goes to the students' dormitories(宿舍) after school to see how everything is going. Every month, Chen takes the students to visit museums or other places in Zhuhai in their free time.
DrolmaYangzom is one of Chen's students. She says, "Mr Chen is a very nice teacher. He knows well about our habits and hobbies. We all like him. "
The policeman slowly walked along the street. It was about ten o'clock at night. The wind and light rain had kept most people at home.
Halfway down the street, the policeman saw a man leaning against(斜靠着) a door, with an unlighted cigar(雪茄) in his mouth. As the policeman walked up to him, the man spoke quickly. "It's all right, officer, " he said. "I'm just waiting here for an old friend. It's an appointment(约会) that was made twenty years ago. You think it funny to plan a meeting like this, don't you?"
The man lit (点燃) his cigar. The light showed a pale, square-jawed face with keen eyes. He was very well-dressed.
"Twenty years ago tonight, " the man went on, "I had dinner at a restaurant nearby with my friend Jimmy Wells. I was going to the West to try my luck, but Jimmy wanted to stay. We agreed to meet here again exactly twenty years for that date and time. That's why I'm here. "
"What happened to your friend?" asked the policeman.
"I'm not sure, " said the man. "We wrote to each other for a while and then stopped. But I'm sure if he is alive, he will keep his promise. We said we would meet at ten o'clock. "
"OK, I'll be on my way. Good night. " The policeman continued on his way, Bob waited about twenty minutes. Then, a tall man went straight to the waiting man.
"Is that you, Bob?" asked the newcomer. "Is that you, Jimmy?" cried the man in the door. "You've grown so tall. Let me have a good look at you. You don't look anything like Jimmy. " "You're right, " said the tall man. "I'm a police officer. You are wanted by the New York police. But, before we go to the police station, here's a note from your friend Jimmy Wells. "
Bob opened the small piece of paper. His hands shook as he read.
"Bob,
I was on my way to meet you as we had planned. However, when you lit your cigar, I saw it was the face of a man that is wanted by the police. Somehow, I couldn't do it myself. So I sent another police officer to do the job.
Jimmy"
Falling leaves and cold wind show the arrival of another season. December 13th is Lidong. It is a Chinese word for one of the 24 solar terms (二十四节气).
To welcome Lidong, people have many colorful customs (风俗) that light up the cold days. Eating well helps people store energy (存储能量) to beat the cold in winter, and prepare for the growth in the coming spring. The Chinese word for dumpling—jiaozi (饺子) has a similar pronunciation (发音) to the word "change"—jiao. Eating dumplings means celebrating (庆祝) the change of autumn to winter. While in the south, eating chicken, duck and fish is common.
In the past, there were not many fresh vegetables to eat in winter. Therefore, around Lidong some people who lived in the north began to store vegetables like cabbages and green onions. However, some of the customs have disappeared (消失) now. Instead, new winter customs come out in certain places.
A. In the north, people like eating dumplings. B. According to history, Lidong was also a time for people to store vegetables. C. Most people buy fresh vegetables in the supermarket. D. It is the start of the winter. E. One of the most popular customs is to have a big meal. |
