One night in July at an all-girls summer camp, the students sat around a fire and talked with each other. Their teacher asked if any of the girls wanted to1 something. It could be anything that happened that day and what they 2 it. One girl put up her hand. She said that another girl said something bad to her and it hurt her 3 . For that, she felt quite sad about it. The teacher went into the4 , and carried a tube of toothpaste(牙膏) when she walked out 5 the door. Then she held the tube 6 in the air so that every student could see7 . She squeezed(挤) a bit so some toothpaste came out. She then tried to put the toothpaste back in the tube, 8 she couldn't make it. It just made a mess(脏乱). She squeezed the tube even more, 9 more toothpaste and making even more of a mess. 10 of the toothpaste would go back into the tube.
11 , the teacher then told the students, "This toothpaste is just like the12 you say. When you say something bad, it's13 to take it back. It only makes a mess. 14 before you speak and make sure something you say are15 before you let them out. We should always be careful with what we say. "
Remember: something you say can be a soothing medicine or a sharp knife.

Have you experienced heavy rain or storms? What was the situation(情况) like? How did you feel?
Once, there were two women who lived in the same village. They used to grow the same plants in their own gardens. One woman called Lisa was hard-working and took care of her plants every day. The other woman, named Rebecca, didn't do quite as much. She just let her plants grow however they wanted.
One evening, there was a big storm with heavy rain. The destruction(毁坏) of many plants was serious.
The next morning, when Lisa woke up, she found that all of her plants fell down to the ground because of the rain. However, when she got to Rebecca's garden, she saw that all of the plants were still standing in the garden. Rebecca's plants lived through the storm.
How did this happen? The plants of the relaxed woman learned to do things on their own from the very beginning. They grew deeper roots(根) and made places for themselves in the soil(土壤). They could stand up strong on their own, even during a storm. Lisa found out that since she did everything for her plants, they never learned to live through any difficulties.
It is the same for us. Sooner or later, you have to let go and become independent. If you just let others do everything for you, you' ll never learn to do things on your own.
A big rock fell through the house of Ruth Hamilton, when she was sleeping.
Luckily, she was not hurt. "I jumped out of bed and turned on the lights. I didn' t know what else to do, so I called 911, " Hamilton, from Canada, told CBC. It turns out that the rock is a meteorite(陨石). It came from the outer space! Hamilton said she would keep the rock.
So what is a meteorite? You may have seen shooting stars at night. They are flying rocks in space. Earth's gravity(重力) catches them and lets them fall. Most of them burn up in the sky. But some fall down on Earth. They are called meteorites. Every year, more than 30, 000 meteorites larger than a strawberry fall down on Earth, according to science website DK Find Out.
UK's Natural History Museum says that"the chances(概率) of a meteorite falling are the same everywhere on the Earth. " This means most meteorites end up in the seas. Few people can see them. But still, we have collected 50, 000 meteorites around the world so far.
Following are more information about the meteorite:
●A meteorite will become less than 5% of its size when it falls down on Earth.
●Every 180 years, a meteorite hits a human being, according to a 1985 study by Nature.
You may ask: can we touch a meteorite? Does it have radiation(辐射)? Don't worry. The radiation is not strong. Nothing will happen to your body.
A group of US high school students has changed an empty lot(一块空地) into a place of hope. The students go to Buchtel High School in Akron, Ohio. The empty lot was full of grass in the past. They wanted it to become a space that could be better for the mental(心理的) health of people living nearby.
After weeks of hard working, now the lot is a different place. There is a wood walkway leading to a purple bench(长椅). A few beautiful plants are already in the ground. There is also a hopscotch(跳房子游戏) board painted bright blue. On a back fence, you can see a wall painting with words like"Love" and"Peace" and the students' handprints on it.
The students painted the bench purple because it is a relaxing color. They think kids can go there to sit together, make friends and stay out of difficulties.
The hopscotch board was for a group of eight to ten school-age kids who live nearby. The students heard nowhere to play.
"The lot gives the people nearby a little hope and a little beauty, " said Lyle Jenkins, a member of the Neighborhood Network. "A lot of people love the place and have great hopes for things getting better. "

When I was a kid, I really liked eating candy apples, which are popular snacks in the United States and Britain. Every winter in Beijing, there is kind of candy I like to eat, too. The food is tanghulu and it's the candy apples of my childhood.
It is a ( tradition) Chinese snack, with fruit, always Chinese hawthorns(山楂) on a stick of bamboo and covered with sugar candy. It first( come) from northern China, but it can be found in every Chinese city now.
Although it can be enjoyed year - round, ( foreign) often think of tanghulu with winter. This is probably because there are many tanghulu vendors(摊贩)( ride) their bikes through the streets in winter, selling the sweet treat.
There is an ( interest) fact behind tanghulu's name. Tang means"sugar", which makes sense, because it is a sweet snack. But hulu means"bottle gourd(葫芦)". ? Some people think tanghulu has the same shape as a bottle gourd. That's the reason for ( it) name.
Chinese hawthorns are good for health. In China, it is used to make tanghulu. In many other ( country), people also use the fruit to make different foods. For example, in Mexico, Chinese hawthorns are used to make jam and candy. In South Korea and Japan, they are used to make wine.

In A Street Cat Named Bob, Bowen not only tells you about his life with Bob, but also tells you about his (父母的) life and his own experiences. The (语言) is simple, so it is easy to read.
