 Xinjiang lies in the northwest part of China. Its many cities are popular places for tourist such as Turpan, Kashi, Aksu and the provincial capital(省会) city Urumqi. As Xinjiang is a place with quite a lot of minority groups(少数民族), there are some local traditional festivals that we might not quite know of.

 Grape Festival is one traditional festival in Turpan. It is the hometown of grapes. This world-known city welcomes the local people as well as international friends to celebrate the festival together. This festival is not just a celebration of Turpan's most important agricultural product(农产品), but a good chance to enjoy the local way of life. During the yearly Turpan Grape Festival, traditional singing and dancing activities are held. Besides, travelers may visit the grape, melon, and fruit streets.

 Turpan Grape Festival is a special event to commemorate the Silk (丝绸) Road so that people will not forget about this road. Turpan is famous as an important point of the road.

People always think that mother's love is the greatest love in the word. you are still a baby, mother takes good care of you as much as possible. In your waking hours(醒着的时候) , she always holds you in her  . When you are ill, she stops her work right now to look after you day and  and forgets about herself. When you are growing up day by day, she feels very  . When you are old enough to go to school, mother still looks after you all the time. On cold winter days, she always tells you to put on  clothes. She always stands in the wind and for you back from school. When you hurry to leave home for school with little breakfast, she always feels  about you at home. She usually knows about your study and  much money on your school things. When you do well at school, the brightest smile will be  her face.

 In China, the 12th month of the lunar calendar(阴历) is called Layue. The month is full of interesting festivals and customs.

 Laba Festival, which is on the 8th day of Layue, is the first festival in this month. From this day on, people begin to get ready for the Chinese New Year.

 On Laba Festival, people often eat hot Laba porridge (腊八粥). There are usually eight things in the porridge: rice, red beans, peas, dried lotus seeds, dates, and three different kinds of fruits and nuts. The porridge is not just good for your health, but a blessing for the coming of the Chinese New Year.

 Laba porridge is not the only tasty food in Layue. Laba garlic(腊八蒜) is popular in the north. People begin to put the garlic in vinegar(醋) from that day on, and eat it with dumplings during the Chinese New Year. While in the south, people like making sausages.

 Another celebration before the Spring Festival is Xiaonian. It is usually on the 23rd or 24th day of the last lunar month. Xiaonian is an important day when people offer sacrifices(提供祭品) to the Kitchen God(灶神) who looks after the family.

 Don't forget to clean your home. This is also an important thing to do to prepare for the Chinese New Year. It means sweeping away the dust of the old year and welcoming a fresh start. Now, the last thing for you to do is to wait for the coming Spring Festival.
