My hobby is reading. I read storybooks, magazines, newspapers and many kinds of material that I find interesting.
I started this hobby 1 I was a little boy. At that time, I always 2 my parents to read stories to me. At first, they read stories to me every night. Soon they got 3with reading to me. So as soon as I could, I learned to 4 I started with some simple ABC books. Soon I could read some simple stories. Now I read 5that I can get.
Reading is a good 6 for me to learn about many things. I learned about how people lived in the past. I learned about the space travel, big 7 like whales (鲸鱼), and many other things in the world.
The wonderful thing about reading is that I do not have to learn about things the hard way. For example, I do not have to go to the 8 to learn about wild tigers. I can read all about9 in a book.
Books provide readers 10 a lot of information and facts. They have certainly helped me in my daily life.
Now cities are full of cars. Some families even have two or more cars. Parking is a great problem, and so is the traffic in around the cities. Something will have to be done to change it. What will the cars of tomorrow be like?
Little cars may some day take the place of today's big cars. If everyone drives little cars in the future there will be less pollution in the air. There will also be more space for parking cars in cities, and the streets will be less crowded. Three little cars can fit in the space now needed for one car of the usual size.
The little cars will cost much less to own and to drive. Driving will be safer, too. What is more, these little cars can go about 65 kilometers per (每) hour.
Little cars of the future will be fine for getting around a city, but they will not be useful for long trips. If big cars are still used along with the small ones, two sets of roads will be needed in the future. Some roads will be used for the big, fast cars, and other roads will be needed for the slower small ones.
When you cough or sneeze, please turn your head away from others and cover your mouth with the full part of your hand. And then, you should say, “Excuse me.” This is a rule I set for my students
It is so simple, but many kinds have never been told to do this. In fact, I notice adults cough and sneeze in public without putting a hand over the mouth. I hate traveling by subway in New York during cold and flu season, because it is certain that someone is going to stand right behind me and cough or sneeze on my neck.
One important thing I point out to the kids is that after they sneeze or cough on their hand, they should wash their hands as soon as possible. Or they will be passing those germs (病菌) along to everything and everyone they touch.
In order to help the kids remember this rule, I tell them about an old story. It says that when you sneeze, evil spirits (幽灵) jump into your body. If you don't cover your mouth, the spirits will enter, but if you cover your mouth, you will keep them out, We say “God bless you” (上帝保佑你) when someone sneezes, and in Germany you should say “Gesundheit” (祝你健康). That means “Good health to you.” Both expressions are said just in case you didn't cover your mouth in time and the spirits were able to enter your body. The kids love finding out the origins (起源) of these expressions and it encourages them to put the advice to use more often.
she swim sudden hour Australia |
Every year in Australia there are crocodile (鳄鱼) attacks (攻击) on humans. Two years ago, a 24-year-old German tourist died when she went in a lake. Although there were signs warning people that there might be crocodiles, the girl and friends decided to have a midnight swim. The girl disappeared and the next morning her body was found. Near it was a four-meter crocodile. And only last month two boys watched in fear as their friend was killed by a crocodile. They were washing their mountain bikes in a river at that time. Then, those two boys climbed a tree and stayed there for 22 while the crocodile waited below.
The Internet is generally(通常) considered to be the world that belongs to young people. But some old people in Shanghai don't think so. Recently, more than 8,000 people over 50 took part in a web page designing contest in Shanghai.
The contest lasted for two months and attracted a lot of old people. Among them, the oldest is a 79-year-old retired (退休的) lady. She had learned web page designing for 4 months before attending the contest. She finally got an honorary ( 荣誉的) title of “The Most Senior Participant(参与者)”. About 30 other old people got different prizes such as “The Best Creative Work” and “The Best Fine Arts Work”. Their works' themes included science, technology, Olympics, personal life and so on.
The organizers of the contest hoped to encourage more and more elderly people to learn more about the Internet world. And many of the participants felt they really got a lot from the contest. “Designing web page enriches my life and makes me feel much closer to the young people,” one participant said.
The designing of web page is not an easy job. But that doesn't mean it is the patent(专利) of young people. In fact, as the saying goes: “It's never too old to learn.” As for the teenagers, perhaps they should know“It's never late to learn”, whether it is English, piano or others.
