Mr. Clark was born in small town in England. When he finished middle school, he found a job in a police station. He has worked there many years and he would retire (退休) this autumn. He tried to work hard all the time, he wasn't a lucky man and never caught a thief. He was often sorry for it.
Last weekend, Mrs. Clark was cooking supper, she found there (be) no sugar. So she asked her husband (buy) some in the shop near their house. Mr. Clark went into the shop and found a young man stealing some money from a (woman) bag. He ran to the thief (quick), but the young man saw him and ran away at once. took Mr. Clark half an hour to run after him. At last he caught the thief. brave Mr. Clark was!
"Please give me a chance, sir, said the young man. "I've never stolen anything before."
"Who can give me a chance?" said Mr. Clark. "I'll soon retire and I have never caught a thief before."
