Charles Dickens was one of the founders (创 立) of the British literature (文学). He was born in 1828 and died in 1870.
As a child, Charles was small and weak(虚 弱 的). His father often borrowed money from others, and when he couldn't pay it back, he was put into prison(监狱)for some time, so little Dickens did not have much chance to go to school.
Charles Dickens began to make his own money by singing at the age of ten. Then he went to work in a factory. He was interested in writing and dreamed to be a writer, though his parents wanted him to be a lawyer(律师). In 1848, he was a reporter by day and a writer by night, writing about London life.
