Does Success Come with a High EQ(情商) or IQ(智商)?

Most students think that their IQs are what determines (决定) how well they are going to do in life. When they see other students doing better than them, they usually believe that those students have higher IQs. However, new research(调查) into EQ suggests that success is not only the result of a high IQ.

Your IQ tells you how intelligent(聯明的) you are while your EQ tells you how well you use your intelligence(聪明). Professor(教授) Salovey who invented the term(术语) EQ suggests that when predicting(预言) someone's future success, their EQs might really matter more than their IQs.

It is generally believed that people with high EQs are open to new ideas and have positive(积极的) attitudes (态度) towards life. They are also less likely to be troubled by problems.

People generally believe that a person's IQ is determined(决定) by birth. However, most social scientists agree that EQ has a lot to do with education which can improve a person's EQ, especially in terms (方面) "people sill', such as understanding and communication.

Professor Mayer, a top expert(专家) in the study of changes to people's EQs, recently told us the results of a study on senior high school students. When normal(正常的) students were introduced to some disabled students, they found that, after a period of time, the normal students were more willing to help people with difficulties. They also showed a better understanding of the students feelings compared to students who had not been involved in the study. There was also an obvious change in the disabled students' attitudes. They became more positive about life and more willing to try new things.

The results of the study show that EQ is important. If you want to get ahead(领先) in the world and lead a happy successful life, you should get on with other people and be able to understand and react to the situations in the best way possible. This needs a high EQ. The higher, the better.
