The winner of the Global Teacher Prize 2020 was Ranjitsinh Disale, a primary school teacher from Maharashtra. India. However. the nine other finalists (参加决赛者) didn't go home without anything. Disale150% of the prize money with them. He believes together they can make a difference.
Disale started teaching in the village of Paritewadi in 2009. People there didn't think much of2. Many children didn't go to school and some girls got married at a very young age. Even worse the textbooks weren't in the native (当地的) language. Kannada, so most students couldn't3the books.
Disale decided to do something. He learned Kannada himself and then translated(翻译)the textbooks from Grade l to Grade 4 into Kannada. He added OR codes(二维码)to primary textbooks so that audio poems, video lectures (有声诗歌,视频讲座) and stories are4for his students. Disale even organized after-school activities, like games and movie showings. "I just wanted to provide a learning5for every student," he said.
Thanks to Disale, now no teenagers get married in the village and most girls go to school.6, 85% of his students got Grade A in last year's exams. That was impossible before Disale arrived.
7Disale hasn't stopped there. He gives online science lessons in his free time and over 85,000 students in 83 countries have taken them. During summer vacations, he travels around to8teachers in other small villages how to use technology in the classrooms. What a great teacher!
