Stella's problem |
She enjoys looking from everyone else, but her friend is her way of dressing. |
Dr. Mandy's advice |
Don't be too . Talk to her friend about how she feels, and why she doesn't want her friend to do it. Go with her friend. Give her friend advice on dressing. |
"A friend in need" is a perfect description of my good friend Betty. She always stands by me when I am in trouble.
Once, I was ill in hospital and she was the first to visit me and1. She spent the whole afternoon talking to me as I was quite upset. When I returned to school a week later, the year-end exams were three weeks away and I found that I2catch up with the schoolwork. Betty came to my rescue (救援). She tried her best to help me with my weak subjects, studying with me during the whole revision (复习) period. How 3 she was!
A second example was the time when I could not pay attention to my studies. There were problems in my family. My father had4his job. It was difficult for him to find another one. It was Betty who helped me out again. I poured my heart out to her. She told me that her family had their share of problems too. She promised me that all would work well again.5a loving sister, she encouraged me to focus on my schoolwork. "Don't let problems that you couldn't control influence6you can determine (决定)," she said. Her words made sense and after thinking about her advice suddenly, I was soon my cheerful self again. I told myself that in future I would not let family problems be the7for not doing well in school.
I feel so lucky to be friends with Betty and I am learning to be like Betty, not to be a fair-weather friend but a true friend indeed.

Over the past 15 years, 98-year-old Xia Sen has given away most of her money to help students from poor families get an education. She and her husband have always lived a simple life. They say they have always lived a simple life. They say they have enough food and clothes and don't need much.
Born in September 1923, Xia joined the Communist Party of China (中国共产党) in Yan'an, Shaanxi, in 1938. She worked as a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (中国社会科学院) before 1982.
In 2006, Xia visited Xijie Primary School in Danfen country, Shaanxi Province. The bad condition of the school made her sad. She borrowed 20,000 yuan from friends and bought desks and books for the students there. Since then, she has tried best to help the schools in Danfeng, Shaanxi and Shangyou, Jiangxi.
In 2013, Xia set up the "Xia Sen Scholar ship" to support high school and college students. She has given away more than 2 million yuan to help 182 students go to college.

The Yangtze River, about 6,300 kilometers long, is the longest river in Asia. It provides a lifeline for hundreds of millions of people. It covers an area of 1.8 million km², about a fifth of the national total. The river also provides a third of our country's fresh water resources. Along with the Yellow River, it is considered as China's "mother river".
However, in recent years, this "mother river" has met with some environmental problems, including heavy pollution and the decrease of the fish population. Even worse, there are high levels of harmful chemicals in the Yangtze River. To solve these problems, the government passed the Yangtze River Protection Law. The law can into force on March 1, 2021. There are nine parts in the law, covering areas such as resource protection, anti-pollution measures, green development and legal (合法的) responsibilities. More importantly, the law has introduced a fishing ban(禁令)on the Yangtze River's natural waterways. According to the new law, both the central government and local organizations would put the river protection into their economic (经济的) and social development plans.
Around 231,000 fishermen had given up their fishing rights along the Yangtze River. Chinese Vic-premier Hang Zheng said that more support should be given to these people to help them find new jobs and places to live. He also calls for stronger efforts to help prevent activities which are not allowed by the law and encourages the public to support the ban.
The Chosen One is a Chinese TV documentary (纪录片). It is about the challenges that children with dyslexia (阅读障碍) and their parents face. In China, between 5% and 8% of children have dyslexia.
They have problems memorizing, reading and understanding the meaning of characters, and this makes it hard for them to read. So students with dyslexia usually do badly in Chinese- language exams at first and later in other subjects that need reading.
So children with the problem are labeled (被称为) "lazy" or "stupid". Pop star Xiao Jingteng, who has this problem, once wrote, "Sometimes, for those who have dyslexia like me, others' misunderstandings can bring more harm (伤害) than the problem itself."
If we help them to get through this time peacefully, things will get much better when they grow up. In the documentary, She invited Xiaoxiao's classmates and their parents to take part. She explained Xiaoxia's problems so that those around him would not misunderstand or laugh at him.
