The Chosen One is a Chinese TV documentary (纪录片). It is about the challenges that children with dyslexia (阅读障碍) and their parents face. In China, between 5% and 8% of children have dyslexia.
They have problems memorizing, reading and understanding the meaning of characters, and this makes it hard for them to read. So students with dyslexia usually do badly in Chinese- language exams at first and later in other subjects that need reading.
So children with the problem are labeled (被称为) "lazy" or "stupid". Pop star Xiao Jingteng, who has this problem, once wrote, "Sometimes, for those who have dyslexia like me, others' misunderstandings can bring more harm (伤害) than the problem itself."
If we help them to get through this time peacefully, things will get much better when they grow up. In the documentary, She invited Xiaoxiao's classmates and their parents to take part. She explained Xiaoxia's problems so that those around him would not misunderstand or laugh at him.
