Getting to Know Insects
Like you, insects are alive. Both people and insects are animals. Insects are different from other (animal). Lots of people are (interest) in insects. Let's read (find) out how they are different.
Insects are invertebrate(无脊椎的) animals. That (mean) they have no backbone. Insects (be) the largest group of animals on the earth. Actually, about half of all the animals that scientists know are insects!
Insects have three main body parts. They are the head, the thorax(胸腔), and the abdomen(腹部). Do you know how legs insects have? Well, they have six legs. Many adult insects also have wings. The wings and legs are attached(附着) to the thorax.
Some invertebrate animals look like insects, but they are not, for , spiders. Lots of people think spiders are insects. In fact, spiders are not insects. They have eight legs, not six. They only have two body parts instead three. So, spiders are not insects.
Most insects lay eggs. Some young insects look like (them) parents. Other young insects, such as caterpillars(毛毛虫), look very different from their parents.
