Have you ever heard of Jiahu bone flute(骨笛)? The 8,800-year-old (音乐的) instrument is probably the oldest in China.
Jiahu bone flutes were (发现) in Jiahua, a village in Henan Province. They are from bird bones. The largest one is about 20 cm long, with 8 (孔) of the same size. Surprisingly, one of the flutes can still be played. It can make not only single notes but also what we could call music.
The making (过程) of Jiahu bone flutes is nearly the same as that of modern-day Chinese wind instruments. However, the ancient people (设法完成) to make the amazing instrument with very simple tools. Without (疑问), they were smart and (有耐心的).
Were the bone flutes used for (乐趣)? Probably not. According to the experts, the flutes were owned by somebody important in an ancient tribe(部落). When something (很坏的) happened, the flute owner needed to ask the god what was happening by playing the instrument. At the same time, the music could make people less worried.
