William Shakespeare was a famous English writer. He mostly wrote plays and special poems. Those poems are1 sonnets(十四行诗), and they have a special pattern. Also, they aren't easy to2 .
That didn't stop scientists, though. One team just trained a computer to write poems3 Shakespeare's. They entered(输入)4 3,000 sonnets into their machine. Those5 the 154 sonnets that Shakespeare created. After that, they used a special6 . It gave the computer the rules for writing a sonnet and made sure the computer7 them.
Using AI(人工智能), the computer is able to write sonnets. They are so8 that common people can't tell whether a person or a machine wrote them. That doesn't9 they are perfect, though.
The computer follows the rules of sonnet writing closely, 10 it makes mistakes in word use or grammar. Those mistakes made the poetry experts11 that the sonnets were written by a machine. The experts also12 that the computer's work had no feeling.
The experts'13 didn't really hurt the scientists. Instead, they work harder to14 their bright machine "student". Their AI "student" is sure to keep on15 . It might even be more famous than Shakespeare one day.

Kellan was coaching one of the beginning soccer teams—the Falcons. It was their first practice.
"Angela, you're supposed to be guarding the net!" Kellan called out.
"But I'm making a flower chain for you," the girl replied.
A few moments later, Angela ran off the field to present Kellan with her gift. Angela's teammate Jason, meanwhile, was following the slow-movement of a caterpillar(毛毛虫)in the middle of the field, while another player, Rory, was playing in a nearby pond(池塘)of rainwater.
After the practice, Kellan felt really tired, as if she had run a marathon.
When she arrived home, Kellan threw herself on the sofa and thought carefully about the practice. The players ran in a hundred different directions. They didn't recognize each other's talents and had no idea how to work together. As she touched the flower chain still hanging around her neck, an idea slowly started taking shape in her mind.
The next day, Kellan called for her players to gather around and took out a picture. The picture showed the loops of a big chain, and each loop had a team member's name as well as a talent written on it.
"This picture shows one way each person can help our team," Kellan began explaining. "For example, Rory has fast speed, and Jason has sharp eyes for watching the ball." Kellan noticed how everyone in the group slowly changed, sitting up taller and smiling as she mentioned their names and skills.
"What will happen if one loop is missing?" asked Kellan.
"The chain will fall apart, and it won't be chain anymore," Angela replied.
"Exactly!" Kellan said. "In order to be a team, we need everyone to work together, like loops in a chain. It won't be easy, but I want every person to try."
Her players still tried hard with their practice, but, for the first time, they tried to help each other. It was a start. Kellan felt a sense of satisfaction as she waved good-bye to her team at the end of the practice.
Resting my head on Helen's shoulder, I put my arms round her waist(腰). She drew me to her, and we rested in silence.
We had not sat long before another person came in.
Some heavy clouds, swept from the sky by a rising wind, had left the moon bright; and her light, coming in through a window near, shone full both on us and on the coming person, Miss Temple.
"I came on purpose to find you, Jane Eyre," said she. "I want you in my room, and as Helen Burns is with you, she may come too."
We followed Miss Temple to her apartment. It had a good fire, and looked cheerful.
Miss Temple told Helen Burns to be seated in a low armchair on one side of the fireplace, and herself taking another, she called me to her side.
"Is it all over?" she asked, looking down at my face. "Have you cried your sadness away?"
"I am afraid I never shall do that."
"Why?"
"Because I have been wrongly accused(指责), and you and everybody else, will now think me a bad girl."
"We shall think you what you prove yourself to be, my child. Continue to act as a good girl, and you will satisfy us."
"Shall I, Miss Temple?"
"You will," said Miss Temple. "You have been accused of lying when you were little. Tell us the truth, but add nothing and exaggerate(夸大)nothing."
I made up my mind that I would be most modest(谦虚) and most correct. Having thought for a few minutes about where to start, I told her all the story of my sad childhood.
Everybody hates that feeling when you spend three weeks reading a book, and a month later somebody asks you about it and you can't remember a thing you read. It makes you wonder why you wasted a couple of hours on the words that didn't stick.
There are some effective(有效的) ways to learn. And when I say "to learn effectively", what I mean is to not just build up knowledge, but to be able to apply(应用)that knowledge effectively at some point in the future. By this definition, most of the courses people spend money on is not learning. Something is not truly learned until it changes you in some way.
1 Memory is based on relevance(相关性)
One of my favorite online book clubs is Mentor Box. What's cool about the club is not only do they send you books to read, but they send you study materials related to them. The study materials, instead of being like school, where it asks you to repeat information in the book to help memorize it, are designed to help you apply the lessons to different areas of your life.
That's because memory works based on relevance. We only remember what our brain has considered important to our own lives. If you don't find a way to make it relevant to you and you well-being in some way, your brain will conveniently forget it.
You can do this on your own. When you come across something interesting in a book, write down its application or relevance to something in your life—how you can use the idea, how it explains something in your past, how it can help with your problems, etc.
2 Reading does not have to be linear
People believe they have to read everything. Line by line, one after another. This is not only not true, but it's often a waste of time and energy.
When you buy a book, you're not buying the words, you're buying the useful ideas. The point of a book is to gather the information that is relevant and important to you, not to finish it or to understand every word. What matters is the principle or key idea. Once you've received that principle or idea, there's no reason to feel obligated to sit there and read the rest.
3 Think critically and ask the right questions
Everything you read should be questioned. You should question the writer's biases(偏见), whether they're explaining information correctly, whether they're overlooking something. When reading something I agree with, I'll ask myself, "Is it possible that this could be wrong?" Everything should be taken with a grain of salt, for the simple reason that almost everything is largely uncertain And it's the ability to solve the problems about those uncertainties effectively, not the ability to memorize a lot of facts and numbers.
The Grand Canyon(科罗拉多大峡谷) is a large river canyon in Arizona. It is over 220 miles long and over a mile deep in some places. Its widest point is 18 miles wide. The canyon is considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
Over millions of years, the Colorado River wore away rocks as it passed through the area. Slowly, the river made the path deeper and deeper. Now the canyon is surrounded by steep walls on either side, while the river continues to flow at the bottom of the canyon.
Besides its large size, the Grand Canyon is also known for its magnificent colors. The canyon is made of layers of rock(岩层), and each layer of rock has a different depth and color. Geologists have identified almost 40 different layers of rock exposed by the rivers erosion.
The climate in canyon area is primarily desert, with both high and low temperatures. The upper rims of the canyon often receive snowfall. The air quality is usually very high, although dust storms and smoke from fires can change the air.
The Grand Canyon is home to a variety of plants and animals. Plants range from various species of cactuto pine forests. Many types of animals live in the area, including the bald eagle, bobcats, bats and gila monsters. Six different kinds of rattlesnakes have been found in the area
Today, the canyon is part of the Grand Canyon National Park. About five million tourists visit the park each year.
