To celebrate the New Year, people all over the world eat different food.
Chinese people celebrate the New Year on the first day of the first lunar (阴历) month. They call it the Spring Festival. During the Spring Festival, Chinese people eat dumplings. Sometimes people put a coin(硬币) in one of the dumplings. Everyone hopes to find the coin for luck in the new year. People in the south of China also make rice cakes for the Spring Festival. People call rice cakes "Nian Gao". It means "getting better year after year".
In Spain (西班牙), people eat twelve grapes at midnight on New Year's Eve—One grape for good luck in each month of the new year. Japanese (日本人) eat noodles on New Year's Eve and on birthdays. They think noodles may bring them good luck and long life(寿命).
The food may be different in each country, but the meaning is the same. People hope the food will, bring them good luck and fun in the new year.
