I'm an American. I live and work in Japan. One day, l was seriously ill, so I called an ambulance (救护车). It quickly came and took me to the hospital. After some tests, the doctors said there was nothing serious, but they still kept me in the hospital for a night.
During checking out (结账) the next day, they kept warning me that the cost would be expensive.
At that moment, I was a little worried about the cost. Then they showed me the bill—about ¥ 30, 000, a little under $ 300.
I surprised them all when I started laughing. They just had no idea what was so funny. Then I told them that an ambulance ride, hospital stay and follow-up medication(后续用药)in the US would easily be at least ten times higher than that price !
