①A week after her 84th birthday, Betty Sandison graduated with a bachelor's degree (学士学位) more than 60 years in the making.

②"Just pure joy, pure satisfaction that I had attained my goal of walking across Northrop," she said.

③On May 7, Sandison received her bachelor's degree in Multidisciplinary Studies from the College of Continuing and Professional Studies—nearly seventy years after she started college.

④Sandison started studying at the University of Minnesota 67 years ago. She had to pause (暂停) her education and follow her husband's career moves when she got married. But she never gave up her dream of getting a degree.

⑤"I was out to lunch with friends, and we were talking about bucket lists (愿望清单) and things we wanted to do. I said I always wanted to graduate from a university," she said.

⑥Deciding to make that happen, Sandison enrolled (注册) in classes at the university in the autumn of 2018, where her second time around was a lot different. The university was larger than before, and she needed to try harder.

⑦Unluckily, because of COVID-19 in 2020, she had to give up both the classes she tried to take online. But Sandison finally got her degree.

⑧"You need to do what you want to do or what your goals are. Don't let anybody stop you," she said. "My big thing is, I would like to encourage older people to go to classes, to keep learning, and not just to sit in front of the TV."
