"Welcome to my live—stream(网络直播). We have run out of firewood. So, I will go to the mountain and cut some firewood. Let's go,"Shi Linjiao,a Miao woman, tells her viewers while live—streaming one day.
Shi is from Shibadong Village, Hunan Province. After she finished college in 2019, she found a job in a city. But a year later, she left her job in the city and returned to her hometown.
"When I was a child, I had a dream to be a singer. I wished to walk out of the high mountains and go for my dream in the larger world," she said. "However, when I visited my hometown last year, I decided to stay and do something for it. "
Shi started a business with Shi Zhichun and Shi Kang. The team of three makes short videos. Shi Linjiao appears on videos as the host. They do the live—streaming, too. Shi often cooks Miao food, sings Miao songs or does farm work when she is live—streaming.
Shi live—streams to let people learn about Miao culture and also help with sales. Once in 5 months, she and her teammates helped villagers sell about 40,000 yuan's worth of specialties. Shi now has nearly 50,000 followers.
"I love my hometown, and I want to serve my hometown well and help it see a better tomorrow," Shi says.
