"Why do we have to go to school? " Desi asked Tisha, her best friend. "Getting up early, schoolwork, homework — it' s too much!"
A few nights later, Desi was drawing when her mom came to talk to her. "Desi, you know the new sickness I told you about — the one that' s been spreading(传播,散开) pretty quickly around the world? " Mom asked. Desi nodded, feeling a little . She didn' t like that her mom looked so worried. "To protect students from the sickness, schools will be shutting down . . . starting tomorrow, " her mom said quietly.
"Wait, what? " A smile started to spread across Desi' s face.
The next day, Desi slept in (睡懒觉)until 9:00 a. m. She watched cartoons in her pajamas(睡衣), drew pictures, played her favorite video games etc. She did whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted.
A week later at breakfast, her mom shared, "Your teachers emailed us. I' m going to help you do your schoolwork at home. "
For the next few days, Desi' s mom did her best, but things were different. Her teacher used funny voices to read what characters(人物) said in books. Her mom didn' t. She didn' t use colorful pipe cleaners when explaining the math problem either. Nothing was fun at all. Desi was starting to miss school. It was so boring playing by herself every day.
Two weeks later, Mom shared a piece of news from school. Desi' s teacher would begin holding classes online. Desi was on the screen. It sure feels good to be back in school, Desi thought, even if it is different.
