BOOK OF THIS MONTH The First State of Being By Erin Entrada Kelly Ridge travels 200 years back in time to his favorite year in history-1999. To time travel, Ridge uses something special that hasn't been tested, so he isn't sure where he'll land. He ends up in Delaware, where he meets Michael and Gibby. Ridge tells them that he is from the year 2199, but they don't believe him. When Ridge is ready to return home to the future, his equipment（设备） doesn't work. Will he stay in 1999? | ASK THE WRITER Q1: If you could travel back in time, what year would you choose? I would visit myself as a child in the 1980s and tell her everything is going to be OK. Q2: How did you come up with the idea for this book? I first came up with the character of Michael, then I thought about how I had always wanted to write a book about time travel, and then I brought the ideas together. Q3: What's the best piece of writing advice you've received? Characters should never be too perfect. There's nothing interesting about perfection. Q4: If you weren't a writer, what would you do? I would be a teacher. I love teaching almost as much as I love writing. |
