Travelling with an open heart leads to an unforgettable experience.
This was our1 trip to Barcelona, Spain. My classmates and I went out to see the sights as soon as arriving. We didn't have a 2 to stop by any banks to take out paper money, but we had our bank cards. In our American way of thinking, bank cards would naturally be accepted anywhere.
Our teacher 3 us to La Sagrada Familia, a church with a history of more than 100 years. She let each of us decide either to 4 the entrance tickets to visit it or to return to the hotel. Many headed for the subway and returned to the hotel. Hoping to explore more, two of my friends and I walked around the square.5 soon they decided to return as well. I was confident in my abilities and got in line to enter the church 6 them.
When I got to the window, they asked for the 10-euro ticket. I 7 took out my bank card. But to my surprise, they 8 , asking for paper money only. I was shocked. I 9 had three euros on hand, and my whole group had left.
Just then, I happened to hear English being spoken around me. It took about ten minutes to collect my 10 to get close to the speakers. And I explained my11 : American student, no paper money, priceless landmark. Luckily, one smiling woman 12 me a 10-euro bill. "Go to buy 13 a cup of coffee, and you can keep the change. "she offered. I felt 14 because of her kind help.
Perhaps seven euros didn't mean a lot to her, but it meant a lot to me, and she offered it in such a 15 way that I didn't feel like a beggar(乞丐). That simple act of kindness remains in my memory as one of the nicest things a stranger has ever done for me.

I would visit myself as a child in the 1980s and tell her everything is going to be OK. Q2: How did you come up with the idea for this book? I first came up with the character of Michael, then I thought about how I had always wanted to write a book about time travel, and then I brought the ideas together. Have you ever watched a dolphin show in the Ocean Park?
Have you cheered for the dolphins when they show a few skills? Have you seen a dolphin swimming without a tail? Here's the story about Clever Winter.
Once, Winter tried her best to get away from the rope around her body. If she couldn't break free, she'd die. Rescuers(救援者) sent her to Clearwater Marine Aquarium(水族馆), where they fought to keep her alive. The dolphin was back to life finally, but caregivers weren't able to save her damaged tail. Winter ended up losing her flukes and the lower part of her peduncle.
Over the past six years, Clever Winter began to learn to swim without her tail. She pushed herself forward through water by moving from side to side-like a fish. The movement put harmful pressure on Winter's backbone. That's when scientists Kevin and Dan had an idea: the first ever man-made dolphin tail! The "tail" was strong enough to stay on Winter as she swam but soft enough so that it wouldn't hurt her. Winter wore it like a rubber glove. It did take her some time to get used to it. At first, Winter would shake it off and throw it across the pool for her trainers to get back-just like a game of fetch. But after a few months of training, Winter accepted the tail, and her back started to get better.
Winter is an encouragement to everyone. When a group of physically challenged children came to see her, Winter swam right up to them and waved hello to the crowd. It was as if she were saying, "Look at me! I'm like you!"
Five universities in Australia have worked with the US space agency NASA, to develop ideas for how to feed astronauts in space. Over the next 20 years, NASA is planning to send humans to the Moon and Mars. It wants to set up a space station for years on the Moon, which would mean having to keep astronauts happy with healthy and delicious meals for long periods.
For now, most space food is pre-made like ready meals. Scientists have tried many ways to make it last longer. However, scientists want astronauts to be able to grow fresh food in space, so they can store more kinds of food and have a healthier diet. It could also stop astronauts from getting bored with their diet. Getting bored is a problem because if they can't face their meals, they might end up eating less.
A team at Australia's University of Melbourne is using robots to grow food. These "farmbots"can plant seeds, keep the plants watered as they grow and harvest them when they are ready to eat. The farmbots can also take a look at temperature and growth. The farmbots have "E-noses", which can quickly know the smells given off by the plants. Used with sensors(传感器) in the soil, the technology can work out what the plants need. So far, leafy greens like basil, kale and lettuce have been the easiest vegetables to grow.
The team have also been testing the effect the foods might have on humans in space, where there's little or no gravity(引力). As they eat in this position, people's physical and emotional results are recorded.
The scientists want to make the plant grow automatically(自动化)on space tasks. Professor Sigfredo Fuentes told the newspaper that it would be like having "a smart fridge in space"where everything, from food to medicines, can be created from plants when needed.
① plant seeds ② water the plants ③ cook the plants ④ harvest the plants
Ganesh Baraiya, who was considered as the shortest doctor in the world, was born in the Talaja Thaluka area of Gujarat, India.
Ganesh was born just like other kids, but at the age of four, his parents noticed that his head was outgrowing his body, so they took him to a doctor. They learned that the boy suffered from a rare disease and there was nothing anyone could do.
Wanting to help her son,Ganesh's mother put a helmet(头盔) on his head to stop it from growing and give his body a chance to catch up. In school, he was often laughed by others because of his large head and short body, but he also had friends who were always with him and he was able to continue his studies.
Although Ganesh Baraiya couldn't grow up like a usual person, he was always full of hope. He knew he wanted to be a doctor from a very young age, and put all his energy into his studies, working hard to get high grades. When the time came, Ganesh had the test for a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree(MBBS). He got good test scores, but only to be refused because of his height(only three feet).
▲ . He tried his best to prove that he totally has the ability to do the same things as others. With the help of his school head teacher, in 2018, India's top court(法院) gave Ganesh the right to be a member in an MBBS, and he did just that the following year. The three-foot-tall man has recently completed his studies and is working as a doctor at Sir-T Hospital in Bhavnagar.
"I was very disappointed three years ago, but I refused to accept the result. Now I am very happy that I have the chance to be a doctor."

The Silk Road is the rame of different roads that long ago connected Europe, Africa and Asia.Peone(到达) these different places along the roads. They began to travel the Silk Road(多于)3,000 years ago.By the time the Chinese silk(贸易)became important in the world, the Silk Road had covered almost 6,500 kilometres.
Businessmen tavclling along the Silk Road carried silk, of course. They afso carried cloth, valuable (位头) and gold.
It is said that Roman soldiers travelled through central Asia. They started to live somewhere near the (古老) Chinese village of Liqian. Some of these Romans married(当地)Chinese women and the story of blue-eyed villages of China was started.
During the busiest(阶段), people from different ountries met each other and(分享)goods, stories, languages and cultures. These(包括)people and goods from the Mediterranean, Persian, Magyar, Armenian, India and Chinese areas.
In modern times, the old Silk Road routes(路线) are still used. but now the y are crossed by trains, not camels or horses. There is even a Silk Route(博物馆) in Jiuquan in China. In this way, China protects the history of many countries and nations.
There is a popular quote(引语) on the Internet these days. It goes like this: "I was (look) for a person, who would encourage me, support me, keep me focused, make me happy, and give me true love …"
first time I heard those words, I thought of those I love and those who love me.
One of(important) and magical of them is my friend. For me, simple friends and best friends are different. Simple friends are better than (stranger), and I will respect them and be true to them. But there must be a drawn line between us.
When it comes to best friends, I think j y necessary to have my own way of knowing them: my feelings. Good things in a person can (hide), but your feelings will never lie. Your intuition(直觉) can (true) show you whatever your friends really think of you. So, this is enough for me to know they will be real friends.
Also, be careful a person who shows you all his good points. Studies show that when a person tries to show you his pain or weakness, it means that he trusts you and wants to get closer to you. Please value (they) trust.
We know that friendships may be broken, so we should value each other and enjoy every moment together more-that is enough for me.
Are you often late for something? Do you want to be a good timekeeper?
Being on time means being able to arrive somewhere, finish a task or meet someone at an agreed time. For example, get to your classroom before the lesson begins.
Being late brings trouble, not only to yourself but to people around you.
"When I'm late, I feel worried." says Freddie. "But when I'm on time, I feel more relaxed because I don't have to run around looking for things."
Finishing a project early gives you enough time to make improvements. Packing your bags the night before a match or performance allows you to feel calmer the next day.
There are lots of reasons why people are always late. Some are not good at managing time; others dislike waiting around. You can be a good timekeeper by meeting a friend on the way to school because this will make you get out of the house earlier. If you don't like waiting, try arriving early and fill your time with something interesting, such as learning a language.
It's not easy to form good timekeeping habits. Take small steps can help you feel calmer and more organized.
A. Being on time makes you feel more prepared. B. Good timekeeping is a skill that you're born with. C. Anyone can learn to get time back with a few changes. D. It's common that lots of people find it hard to be on time. E. Being late also makes it easy to forget something important. |
What else can we do when waiting?
