It was Saturday that day. Luke was wearing his sports jersey, waiting in the bench for his chance to play—but until last week, 1 asked him to play. Although the 18-year-old student does well in playing 2 , his coach wouldn't like to bring Luke into play. He was afraid that Luke would 3 .
This is because it's kind of difficult for Luke to 4 things—even when he wears glasses. His mother said that he was born 5 cerebral palsy (大脑性麻痹). Although he tries his best to look at the basketball hoop (圈) by focusing on the right corner of his glasses, it is not 6 for him to do it well.
On the high school's Senior Night last week, Luke's coach 7 called him to play during the final minute of the game. With the spectators (观众) already standing to give him a(n) 8 welcome, Luke got into position as the crowd cheered him up.
"I want to get him in. It was Senior Night." the head coach told reporters, "If there was a chance for 9 , I would want to take advantage of it. All the players were for it, too."
Once the game was back in play, one of Luke's 10 passed him the ball. Though he had been practicing shooting hoops 11 he was in the third grade, this was the first time he had ever taken a shot on his high school basketball team.
As the spectators waited, Luke took the shot and 12 the ball. It leaned (倾斜) through the net, hardly touching the rim (边缘)—it was a perfect goal and the spectators 13 in wild cheers.
"This whole gym was calling my name. The whole 14 was jumping. They were going crazy!" Luke told the news reporters 15 . "Unbelievable! It was like I were a little kid again."
