It was Hoppy's first day at his new school. He met Billy and his friends, some cool kids in the school. On their way home, a redheaded boy, Gerald, was 1 past them with a schoolbag.
Billy pushed the boy so that he fell off his bike and his glasses broke. They ran away, laughing.
Hoppy wanted to run away, too. But 2 he just stood there.
The boy was crying 3 now. He looked up at Hoppy. "Don't hit me," he said in a low voice.
Hoppy smiled. "Only bullies do that. Really 4 people keep their fists (拳头) in their pockets."
Hoppy helped Gerald fix his 5 and on their way to Gerald's home, they decided to go surfing the next day.
On that day, Hoppy went to the 6 with his father first. Billy and the other boys were there, too.
Later, Gerald arrived and 7 walked into Billy and his friends. When he saw them, he started to walk away. Billy 8 Gerald and pushed him. Gerald fell over onto the sand.
But he picked 9 up and said, "Leave me alone."
Still, they kicked sand at him.
Gerald felt like crying. "Leave me alone," he said again, as loudly as he could.
Billy kicked Gerald's feet from under him and Gerald fell in the sand again. This time he managed a brave smile as he got up and 10 the boys.
"Just leave me alone," he said, 11 and stronger.
Hoppy and his father had seen the 12 and ran to help.
As they came near, they heard Gerald say to Billy and the other boys, "I've had enough of you.You might think you're strong but you're not, you're just bullies," said Gerald. " 13 leave me alone."
Billy's face turned 14 and they had noticed Hoppy and his dad coming. So they quickly ran off.
"You stood up to them. That was really 15 of you." said Hoppy's dad.
Gerald looked up. "Yeah", he said with a smile.
