Working as a volunteer gives you a chance(机会)to change people's lives. If you'd like to help but don't have much money, you had better give away your free time.
Now more and more people, especially young people, would like to join in volunteer activities in their free time. Being a volunteer means giving up your free time to do more good things for people. There are many kinds of volunteer work, such as working with children, helping in an animal hospital and planting trees. When China held the 2008 Summer Olympics, thousands of volunteers helped in that event.
Everyone can do volunteer work. Students often try to save time to do some volunteer work. But why do students do this? Some do it because it can make them happy and learn something useful, while others want to spend their free time in a meaningful way. Some students agree doing volunteer work helps them understand themselves and others much better. Many students say it is a good chance to get to know more people and things. They can make some new friends with different people. Nearly half of volunteers enjoy being healthier, and two-thirds feel less nervous(焦虑的). So it seems that volunteering may improve students' lives.
