During her childhood, she looked after goats, collected firewood and went up and down the mountains to get water. She dreamed of a better life, but few opportunities(机会) appeared in such areas. "Generally there are no opportunities," says Rai, a girl left school at the age of 12. "Education is limited(限制的) for girls. Women don't have much time to study."

Luckily, she became a runner. A few years ago, Mira Rai went for a walking in Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. She happened to meet some runners and ran with them for a while. She got the news about the important running race the Kathmandu West Valley Rim. She decided to take part in it. Unlike the other runners, Rai didn't have any food, water, or sports shoes. During the running competition of those 3l miles, rain poured down and made the road wet. It was the first time she felt so tired. But Rai, the only woman competitor, completed the race.

Many people began to know Mira Rai after the competition. In 2016, Rai wanted to continue racing but her health stopped her from doing so. Instead of running herself, she decided to encourage and help others to run. She set up a small running school for children to help them run and practice running. And she organized the first ever running race in her home village. She got 90 pairs of free running shoes for children.

Rai received letters from many girls in Nepal. They told her they had learned a lot from her story. They wanted to be like her, to work hard for their dreams. Many of them have made their dreams come true. Rai is very glad that she has helped so many girls like her. She said, "Instead of having nothing to look forward to, they have something to at least reach for. I will try my best to help them achieve their dreams."
