When I was in the third grade, I (pick) to be the princess (公主) in a school play. For weeks my mother helped me practice my lines (台词). I did very well at home, but on stage (舞台). All of a sudden, every word went away my mind.
Then one day, my teacher told me she had written a narrator's (旁白员的) part for the play, and asked me to change my role. Though I didn't tell my mother what had happened, she felt my (unhappy). She asked me to take a walk in the yard. It was a (love) spring day. We could see dandelions (蒲公英) everywhere. "I think I am going to pick all these weeds (杂草)," she said. "But I like dandelions," I said. "All plants are beautiful—even dandelions!" My mother looked at me (serious). "Yes, every flower shines in its own way, doesn't it?" she said. I (nod). "And that is true of people, too, " she added. She had guessed my pain. I started to cry and told her the (true). "You will be a wonderful narrator," she said, reminding me how much I loved to read stories to her.
Over the next few weeks, with the encouragement, I learned (take) pride in the role. The big day finally came. A few minutes before playing, my teacher came over to me.
"Your mother let me give it to you," she said and handed me a dandelion. (look) at it and thinking of our talk in the yard, I didn't fear anymore.
