Writing couplets (对联) is one the most important parts of traditional Chinese culture. A couplet is usually a two-line poem. are many rules for writing couplets. For example, the two lines have the same number of characters. Besides, if a character in one line is a noun, the corresponding (相应的) character in other line should also be a noun.
Before the Qing dynasty, people only wrote couplets celebrate the Spring Festival. Today, you can see them on different occasions (场合). Some show good wishes to newly-weds (新婚夫妇). Others wish the elderly healthy on their birthdays.
