Not Too Cute for the Police Force Last month, at an open-day event held by Weifang police, a corgi named Fu Zai stole the hearts of everyone there. Fu Zai is six months old. He's now the first corgi reserve (预备役) police dog in China. To become a police dog, Fu Zai has to receive training twice a day. He has learned some important skills like locating explosives (爆炸物) . Thanks to his short legs, he's especially good at working in narrow spaces. If all goes well, Fu Zai will be ready to start work by the time he turns one year old. ____ To make more people realize the e-waste problem, Envision Racing, a British Formula E (电动方程式) racing team, came up with an idea. They built a race car completely out of e-waste and named it "Recover-E". It's the first of its kind in the world. All the old devices (设备) from the project was collected from local schools and tech companies. "The world's e-waste is a huge problem," says Hopkins. "Through the project, we want to show that we can reduce the e-waste problem." A Pineapple for Scientific Curiosity What does a super slippery toilet look like? How do smells change the way we see colors? Ten fun scientific studies from across the world won the 12th Pineapple Science Award on November 12. Several of this year's award winners got their ideas from daily life. The prize is designed to educate the public about science. More importantly, the organizer hopes to stimulate (激发) the curiosity of young people through "fun and serious" studies. |
