Jordyn Perez was about to turn eight years old. Her mother 1 a new way to celebrate her birthday. "How about donating (捐献) your gifts to a children's hospital?" her mom asked.

Now Jordyn is in high school, but she has continued (继续) to bring 5 to kids in hospital. Last Christmas, she made her eighth 6 gift donation to a children's hospital in San Antonio, Texas.

Jordyn's gift-giving project begins each year in November. When she sends her friends 10 to her birthday party, she includes a list of gift ideas for kids in hospital. It was a fine summer afternoon. Sam was going home from school. He walked along the road slowly, reading a book. He liked it very much. When he came to the high road, there was a blind man, holding out his hat. The poor man said, "I haven't eaten anything since yesterday. Please give me some money. I want to buy some bread." But Sam had just spent his money on the book. So He walked on feeling very sad.
Soon after, a fine carriage (马车) came up, and in it were Harry and his mother. The blind man still stood there and ★ . "Let us give the poor man something," said Harry to his mom. His mother agreed with her son and she found some coins in her bag. She passed them to Harry. Harry stopped the carriage. However, he did not put them into the man's hat. He threw them into the bush (灌木丛) beside the poor man. How could the blind man find them?
As Sam turned back to look at the fine carriage, he saw Harry throwing the coins into the bush. He was surprised at Harry's action. So he walked back at once and helped the man look for the money until he found all the coins.
As the blind man held the coins, he smiled. It touched Sam's heart. At that moment, Sam knew that kindness wasn't always about big actions; sometimes, it was the simple act of giving a helping hand that could make a difference.

These are great for new readers. If you like the characters in a particular story, then it can be rewarding (值得的) to read about them growing up or getting on other adventures. While some books in a series can be read separately, others must be read in a certain order. Make sure of this before you start.

The very best people to throw your questions about books at are librarians. They really are "book brains". If you let them know what you've read in the past and what you liked or didn't like about it, they'll be able to suggest some possible reads for you to try next.

Last month, at an open-day event held by Weifang police, a corgi named Fu Zai stole the hearts of everyone there. Fu Zai is six months old. He's now the first corgi reserve (预备役) police dog in China. To become a police dog, Fu Zai has to receive training twice a day. He has learned some important skills like locating explosives (爆炸物) . Thanks to his short legs, he's especially good at working in narrow spaces. If all goes well, Fu Zai will be ready to start work by the time he turns one year old. 
To make more people realize the e-waste problem, Envision Racing, a British Formula E (电动方程式) racing team, came up with an idea. They built a race car completely out of e-waste and named it "Recover-E". It's the first of its kind in the world. All the old devices (设备) from the project was collected from local schools and tech companies. "The world's e-waste is a huge problem," says Hopkins. "Through the project, we want to show that we can reduce the e-waste problem."
What does a super slippery toilet look like? How do smells change the way we see colors? Ten fun scientific studies from across the world won the 12th Pineapple Science Award on November 12. Several of this year's award winners got their ideas from daily life. The prize is designed to educate the public about science. More importantly, the organizer hopes to stimulate (激发) the curiosity of young people through "fun and serious" studies.
