When 90-year-old Mao Shihua died on Dec.18, 2023, netizens (网民) from around the country joined the people of Mao's (家乡) to show their sadness.
Mao was famous in Huangtankou Township in Quzhou, Zhejiang because of her (善良) . There she ran a breakfast stall (摊) just a few meters away from Huangtankou Primary School. Known as "Breakfast Nanny", Mao (提供) children with healthy food. Each thing was only 5 jiao, and the price was never raised.
Mao's "day" (开始) at 2 am, when she would be busy with the breakfast food. Around 5:30 am, Mao would ride a tricycle cart to her stall to sell the breakfast, and there she would stay (到……为止) 7:30 am. Mao often said that she loved children and wanted to make sure that (没有一个) of them went hungry.
Although spending hours preparing and then selling the breakfast, Mao could (几乎不) make 50 yuan or so a day. She would often need to use her pension (动用她的退休金) . However, Mao didn't (在意) . It was important for her to offer a healthy breakfast to the children living in the mountainous (地区) . She found much happiness when she heard children reading loudly in the classrooms. And the hours she spent serving food to them were the happiest part of the day for Mao.
The "Breakfast Nanny" has passed away, but every child she helped will remember her (永远) .
