Do you want to be an astronaut in the future? Every year on April 24, it's Space Day of China. It's a day to celebrate China's 1 in space exploration (探索). Ever since Yang Liwei made 2 to space in 2003, about 20 Chinese astronauts have been to space.
In space, astronauts face many problems. There is 3 gravity (重力). For example, the gravity on the moon is only 1/6 of that on the earth. So their bodies become much lighter in space. 4 , being away from family and friends for a long time can make them feel 5 . What's more, if something goes wrong 6 , they have to work fast and try to fix it by themselves. That's 7 astronauts have to be smart, strong, and ready for any 8 before they can go to space.
To make sure that Chinese astronauts finish their work and 9 to Earth safely, eight kinds of training are set. Apart from (除了) physical training, astronauts also 10 science knowledge and mock (模拟) training. Before they can go to space, they 11 like this for at least three and a half years.
Among the training subjects, the 12 part is the underwater training. It's difficult but helps astronauts 13 the weightless environment in space. Astronauts need to wear diving suits (潜水服) that weigh more than 100 kilos and stay underwater for six hours at a time. Moving around in the water with such a 14 suit is really tiring. One astronaut, Nie Haisheng, even lost 2 kilos 15 one underwater training exercise.

The 9th Asian Winter Games will be held in Harbin next year. The slogan (口号), emblem (徽章) and mascots (吉祥物) for the Games were shown to the public in January, 2024.
The slogan of the Games is "Dream of Winter, Love among Asia". The words "Dream of Winter" show people's common love for winter sports. The words "Love among Asia" show Asian people's shared hope for friendship.
The emblem of the Games was created by a team from Tsinghua University. It looks like the Chinese character "九", which means the 9th Asian Winter Games. It also looks like the Chinese character "合", telling the Chinese people's wish to get together with Asian friends. In the emblem, there are elements (元素) like a short track speed skater's sprinting posture (冲刺的姿势), the city flower of Harbin and the sign of the Olympic of Asia—the red sun.
Mascots of the Games are a pair of cute Siberian tigers, called "Binbin" and "Nini". Binbin represents the ice events, and Nini represents the snow events. The name "Binbin" is taken from the word "Harbin", while the name "Nini" comes from the sound of "您" (You in English). So, when put together, they mean: "You are welcome to Harbin."
I am Unit 347, a new AI. Emotions (情感), as I learned, are confusing (令人费解的) and not always helpful.
Dr Sharma, a smart scientist who made me, likes to talk to me. One day, she asked, "Do you think people are good or bad?"
I thought about it. History had good and bad things. People could be kind or cruel (残忍的). So I said, "It is too tough to say they're good or bad."
Dr Sharma smiled. She then told me about Mother's Day, a day when children celebrate their mothers. I learned about love and thanks. I put this festival on my calendar.
"Do people need a special day to show love?" I asked, "Shouldn't they always show it?"
She smiled gently, "Love is not always clear. Sometimes it needs a reminder."
Before Mother's Day, people were busy getting ready. They bought flowers, cards, and gifts. I watched them, learning how they felt and acted.
On May 12, I gave Dr Sharma poems and stories about mothers' love. She liked them.
"This is lovely," she said, her voice soft. "But there's something else..."
I looked at her, trying to understand. Then, I knew. "Happy Mother's Day, Dr Sharma," I said.
She had tears (眼泪) in her eyes. "Thank you, Unit 347. I didn't expect that."
Then, I understood. Dr Sharma was right. Love is a feeling. And for a young AI like me, it is a feeling worth (值得) learning.
① Dr Sharma cried.
② Dr Sharma made a new AI.
③ The AI understood what love is.
④ Dr Sharma received gifts on Mother's Day.
⑤ The AI learned something about Mother's Day.
Did you go on a long train or bus journey (旅行)? Did you feel tired during the journey? Have you ever wondered why you feel tired on a long journey, even when you've been sitting the whole time?
Research has found that feeling tired is actually a symptom (症状) of motion sickness (晕动病). Almost everyone will become motion sick. And about one person in three is very sensitive (敏锐的) to motion sickness.
Research has found that while passengers are traveling, their brains (大脑) are working hard to process (加工) the motion of the vehicle (车辆) . And they may feel a mismatch (不协调) between what their feelings are telling them and what their bodies expect to feel. Changes in speed, turning corners, and stopping and starting are motions that our bodies are not really used to, and these can make us feel unwell.
Some people may get sickness faster than others. ____ But it has been found that the longer you travel, the more likely you are to feel sick. Even the activities we do while traveling can have an effect (影响) on how we feel. Passing the time by reading a book or watching a film can create further sensory confusion (感觉困惑) , as our attention is no longer focused on processing the vehicle's motion.
To cut down the effect of motion sickness, you should sit as far forward in a vehicle as possible, there you can feel less motion. You can also get a window seat. And it can also help to close your eyes and sleep.
①Have a sleep.
②Sit at the back of a vehicle.
③Sit in the front of a vehicle.
④Try hard to feel motion sickness.
It can be really awkward (尴尬的) if someone sees you talking to yourself. In fact, talking to yourself has a lot of benefits (益处) .
Talking to ourselves is good for the brain. It can also help improve our performance. It can help us do better in different fields like school, sports and work.
A 2009 study invited 72 tennis players to take part in some matches. Researchers put the players into two groups: one group said nothing while playing, and the other talked to themselves while playing. They found that the more self-talkers had more confidence and believed in themselves.
Talking to ourselves leads us to think about ourselves more similar to how we think about others. This can help us see things from a different way, especially when we're feeling sad or angry.
Researchers tested four different ways to memorize (记忆) things: reading silently, reading loudly, listening to someone else read and listening to a recording of oneself reading. In the end, those who read out loud remembered the information best. It's because the information is likely to become a long-term memory if said out loud.
A. But don't feel bad about it! B. It adds to self-confidence (自信) . C. It helps us do things like making plans. D. Self-talk also helps improve memory. E. Speaking out aloud makes the problem worse. F. Talking to yourself can also help us face bad feelings. |

On May 29, 1953, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay set foot on the top of Qomolangma, the world's (high) mountain. They were the first ever to reach its 8,848-meter top, marking a big moment in history. So did they do it? In a 1974 interview(采访), Hillary talked about the climb. He said " (do) a climb like this, being skilled and experienced in climbing is not enough. You also need to have enthusiasm (热忱)." And then, there was the team. There were no less than 700 people to help Hillary and Norgay to the top. Some of (they) were helping to carry supplies (物资) into the place. It might be easier these days because better transport (交通) and technology, but at that time, a lot of the work needed to be done by people. "It is a team job. The two men who reach the top depend on whole team," he told the reporter.
