At 5:30 am, just as the sky becomes bright, Liu Xiuxiang, a 36- year- old vice- principal and history teacher at Wangmo Experimental High School, walks around in his classroom 1 for students. He has 2 doing this for 12 years.
When he was young, Liu lived a 3 life. He lost his father and his brother and sister left their hometown to work. They 4 came back home again and he had to 5 his mother who was ill while studying. To 6 , he took many part- time jobs, including picking up trash and tutoring(家教), to make money. He also used his money to help two girls and a boy he knew 7 they could go on with their study.
8 , one of the girls dropped out of school after finishing middle school. Liu was so shaken that he 9 a good job offer in Beijing and went back to his hometown to teach when he finished his university in 2012.
Liu said that going back to Guizhou only changes his own fate (命运), 10 through teaching, he can influence hundreds or even thousands of children so they can continue studying, which he considers a worthy goal.
"I want to tell those children who are 11 or confused like me that they must have a dream and fight for it," Liu told China Daily.
Besides teaching, Liu visits all the villages around the school 12 his motorcycle to go and persuade parents to let their children continue schooling. In 2016, he 13 his own studio to get more social support to help with education in rural schools in the mountains. Up to now 14 has supported around 5,600 poor students with over 15 million yuan.
" My educational philosophy is to give up on 15 and that every child deserves a better future," Liu said.
