My friend keeps copying my look, but I like looking special. What should I do?- Ann The important thing is to tell your friend the truth without hurting her feelings. To do that, you can talk to her using kind words and not feeling angry. You can offer her your advice on popular dressing or even suggest wearing clothes that go together. This way you' ll still look like each other, but not twins. |
My room is always messy. No matter what I do, I can't keep it clean! - Mike Here are some great ways to make your room a bit tidier. Start by picking up things you don't use or want anymore. You can give them away to those in need. Fewer things means less mess! Then, try to make it a habit to put away things after you use them. Done with your sports shoes for the day? Back where they should be. Finally, set a timer for five minutes each night to clean any mess! |
I'm sad because I have to go to a summer camp. I just want to have a summer like my friends. Help me out! - Jessie We re sorry you' re feeling this way! The best thing to do is to look at things on the bright side. There, a new group of kids will become your friends. They' ll know exactly how you feel and help you. What's more, going to a summer camp doesn't mean an abysmal summer. You' ll still have fun in the sun with your friends. The only question is, what are you guys going to do together? |
Food allergies can be very dangerous for people. Their bodies may itch(发痒). They may want to throw up and can even die from allergies. What's worse, food allergies are becoming more common these days.
Kari Nadeau, an allergy expert at Stanford University in the US, did a study of food allergies around the world. She found that while 3 percent of people had them in 1960, the number rose to 7 percent in 2018.
Nadeau said one reason for this might be that we have fewer interactions with microbiota(微生物群). Microbiota can" train" our bodies and stop us from getting allergies.
Our bodies have fewer chances to get close to microbiota these days. We live in cleaner homes. We stay indoors for longer hours. Doctors are using more antibiotics(抗生素) on us as children - antibiotics kill microbiota.
Scientists say it's a good idea for babies to eat many different kinds of foods so that they can build up tolerance(耐受) in their early years. Having a pet cat or dog can also stop the development of allergies.
Roberta, Peter and Phylli s lived in a large house in London. Father worked hard in a government office. He was never angry and always ready for a game. Mother was almost at home, ready to play with the children, read to them and home school them.
These three lucky children always had everything they needed: pretty clothes, good fires, a lovely playroom and a dog called James. They had a happy life, but they did not know how happy till the pretty life in the large house was over.
Peter had a toy engine and it broke. After dinner, Peter showed Father the engine. Father looked it over and promised to fix it on Saturday.
At that moment two men came to see Father. Minutes passed. Father's voice came out from the study, loud and angry.
More time passed. Then Mother came in and said," Father's been called away— on business."
A week after their father went away, their mother said," Now, we' re going to move to the country. A pretty little white house, called Three Chimneys."
The family started packing: clothes, plates, candles and also tables and chairs." We seem to be taking all the ugly things," said Roberta.
" We' re taking the useful ones," said Mother." We' ve got to play at being poor for a bit."
Peter said happily,"I do like moving! I wish we moved once a month." Mother smiled and said,"I don't like moving!"
As she turned away, Roberta saw her face. She never forgot it.
" Oh, Mother," she whispered," how I love you! You are brave enough to smile when you' re feeling like that! "
Then they took a train to Three Chimneys. No one knew how long they had been on the train when Mother woke them up.
They stood in the cold night air on the dark platform. At that moment they didn't know how important the station and the trains would become to them. They didn't know they were going to be the railway children.
