I still remember my kindergarten(幼儿园)teacher, Mrs. White. She looked just like Snow White1she had the same bright eyes and short dark hair.
We used to2a lot. And I would show what I wrote to Mrs. White for correction (批改). She would look at my writing and see many mistakes in it. But she3made any red correction and she always gave a star. I was feeling 4of my writing each time I got a star. But it5my mother. So one day, when she met Mrs. White at a parent-teacher meeting, Mum asked her why she never corrected my6and why she never said no to her child.
Mrs. White said, “The children are just beginning to get 7about using words. Spelling and grammar can wait. We can't8that interest with a red pen.” As it was a long time ago, my mother could only remember the main idea of 9Mrs. White said about my writing. However,
I grew up learning to use words with loving care and 10like that.
If Mrs. White had used her red pen more often, I 11wouldn't be telling you about this now. Whenever I look back on those encouraging 12from Mrs. White, I feel they just look 13real ones in the night sky—bright, shiny, and guiding me on my way somewhere, I do believe she was such a 14teacher, who tried to use a red pen less to keep the joy, wonder and excitement in a child's 15.
Thanks to Mrs. White, I have no fear about writing. Also, I'm not afraid of any mistakes in my life!
If you have no special plans for your holidays, why not spend your time helping others?
Don't listen to people who say the young people today often think only of themselves. It's not true at all. More and more people in the USA volunteer to spend their school holidays working for others. And they don't do it for money. Here are some of their stories.
Alice Hamilton, 17
I'm going to help the Forest Centre build new hiking paths in the mountains. It's going to be terrific—I'll spend the whole summer living in the tent and breathing the clean mountain air. I'm going to sleep under the stars. It'll be a nice sport, and I'll be able to do something good at the same time.
Jason Moore, 18
This summer, I'm going to volunteer with Special House Program. They build good, low-cost houses and sell them to families that are not very rich. They'll teach me what to do, so I'll help people and also have a chance to learn how to build houses.
Trish Anderson, 16
I'm going to teach kids who have trouble reading. I'll work for a program called Reading For Life. Every day, I'm going to help kids choose and read books that they like. I want to be a teacher and I love children and reading, so this is going to be a great experience for me.
Do you sometimes feel sad or worried? When you're feeling down, you may turn on some ice cream to eat even you're already full. It means that you are experiencing emotional (情绪化的) eating. Emotional eating means that we are (use) the food to make yourself(feel) better. In fact, it usually makes you feel much (bad ) because you can't solve your problems, but you'll feel sorry for overeating.
Are you an emotional eater? Try to answer the following questions your answers are “Yes”, you will be an emotional eater.
Do you eat more when you're not (success )?
Do you eat to feel better when you're sad ,bored or worried?
Does food make you feel safe? Do you feel that food isa friend of you?
Some scientists(study) the survey for two months. They have found that (eat) emotionally is bad for our health. In order to stop emotional eating, we should find other ways about how(encourage) ourselves when we feel down.
A life coach is somebody who helps you reach all kinds of personal and professional goals(目标). Each of us has the ability to be our own life coach. Here is some advice about how to be your own life coach:
Pay attention to your relationships with others. Ask yourself the following questions: How do you deal with disagreements? When was the last time you showed your family members that you care for them? Your relationships with friends, family members and teachers show a lot about the kind of person you are.
Face the fears about the future. Now, imagine that one of your good friends told you that he or she was not strong enough to go back to school. We often give better advice than we are willing to take ourselves. Remember that even the most successful people were probably told that what they wanted to do was impossible. ①但是他们坚持努力工作,永不放弃。
Develop your talents. ②If you want to achieve your goals, you will have to spend more time developing the talents you already have. And you should also uncover (发现)any hidden talents that you haven't discovered yet. So you can take classes in subjects that you are interested in, even if you have no experience.
Be thankful. Take some time to be thankful for the things you do have. Remember positive (积极的) things. Think of the best days you have had in the past month or year. Remember special parties, vacations and holidays. Thank for the wonderful people you have in your life.
