My mum works on Saturdays, so every Saturday my aunt, Jenny, takes me somewhere interesting. For example, once she took me to the sea museum, and then she made me do a project (专题研究) about my favourite 1.
Last Saturday, Jenny took me to an old people's home. She was a volunteer there, so she 2 went there in her free time. There were a lot of old people there. Jenny introduced 3 to some of them. Then she asked me if I would like to read the newspaper to them. I was glad to do that. I read 4 so they could hear me. They said my reading was excellent. I felt really 5.
Later, Jenny and I had 6 with them. I sat at a table with one man and two women. During lunch, they told me stones about their lives. The man had been a guide. The two women were from other 7. Mrs Wang came from China, and Mrs Guleed was from South Africa. They 8 their lives in their hometowns. It sounded different.
After lunch, Jenny 9 the piano. Some of the people sang along to the music. The people there were very kind to me. I liked them so much that I began to 10 them as soon as I got home.

When I was a kid, I often played basketball. So I was thin but healthy. When l was about 15, I stopped playing basketball. I also started to drink a lot of drinks high in sugar and eat much more than before. Between 15 and 17, I put on a lot of weight-about 50 kg.
I didn't know how big I was until I saw a photo one day. In the photo, I had a fat neck and my stomach was out there. I hated the way I looked. I knew I needed to lose some weight.
I started to drink only water, and eat less and healthier. I ate mainly vegetables and only one piece of meat every day, and stayed away from sugar.
I also started to exercise. Every day, I ran for 30 minutes first, and then I did some push-ups (俯卧撑) for 10 minutes. I also jumped rope for 15 minutes every day.
I kept exercising the whole winter. When March came, many people said to me, "Oh, Dave, you've been a different person!"
It was true. I had lost 25 kg in three months. I liked taking photos, and I noticed the difference in my looks.
I loved the three months. It felt good to lose weight, and it felt even better to set a goal (目标) and go for it.
I volunteer with Meals on Wheels every Friday. A week ago, I had the pleasure of helping one of my customers (顾客). She is in her eighties and is very weak and I always bring her lunch on Fridays. She looked worried when she opened the door that day. She told me her phone was broken and that she couldn't receive the call from her doctor. She went to her neighbours, but they were not at home. She thought maybe the mailman could help her, but he didn't come. She was disappointed.
Having heard her story, I decided to do something for her. I called the phone company immediately and made sure they knew that getting this phone fixed was urgent (紧急的). I took down her phone number and her name just to make sure I could call her later to make sure that the phone had been fixed.
I called the phone company twice that day. They told me they had checked the phone line and got the phone connected. The old woman was so thankful that she was in tears (眼泪), hugging me for nay help. After that, I called her every day to make sure she was fine.
My heart is filled with love and happiness. It does not take much time or effort to help someone like a neighbour. Sometimes, all that is needed is a smile, a hug or a phone call.
Have you ever saved money to do something special? Cindy Evans and her third-grade class are sure to answer, "Yes!"
Cindy Evans works at Big Beaver Elementary School in Big Beaver, Pennsylvania. One day, she and her third-grade class read about the Great American Smokeout in Weekly Reader. The Smokeout is an event to help people give up smoking. The American Cancer Society runs it.
"We read that about l million people give up smoking each year," said Ms Evans. Then her students asked her. "What does 1 million look like?" Ms Evans told her class the best way to see 1 million was to collect 1 million things.
"I was thinking about collecting 1 million small things like erasers," said the teacher. But her students had a better idea: to collect 1 million pennies (分) and give them away to the American Cancer Society. Soon the class started their big job.
Many people in the neighbourhood joined the students. According to Ms Evans, the bank in their neighbourhood had to keep more pennies because so many people were collecting them.
That June, the class went to the office of the American Cancer Society with 1,177,500 pennies, or$11,775. They hoped that the money could help more people keep healthy.
Hershey chocolate is famous around the world. The man who began it, Milton Hershey, was glad to share the fruits of success with others.
Milton Hershey was born on 13 September, 1857. In 1871, he started working for a local printer. But he didn't like this kind of work and ended the job quickly. Later, he helped make candy in a factory. After a few years, Milton knew that he was a good candy maker and he wanted to start his own candy business. In 1886, he started a caramel (焦糖) business, and four years later his business was very successful. After seeing how chocolate was made. Milton loved it right away. He got married and sold the caramel company for one million dollars and opened up a chocolate factory.
Milton built a town with houses, schools, and stores so the workers in his factory could live nearby. As Milton made more money, he built a school for orphans (孤儿). When his wife died, Milton took all of his money and gave it to the school to help those children. He also set up the M. S. Hershey Foundation to help people get an education.
Milton Hershey died in 1945, but the world remembers him for not only making chocolate, but for his work to help people. He is someone who built a town and helped people get jobs. He is someone who built a school for children who did not have families. He is someone who helped those who were sick and someone who made that chocolate, that delicious chocolate which most of us throughout me world enjoy.
