My parents always told me that I couldn't dance, because it was a girl's sport. But it was my dream to be a dancing star and I still practiced secretly, learning from books, movies, and shows.
However, without my parents' support(支持), that1seemed all but impossible to reach.
One summer, my little sister Maggie was going to dance lessons. I asked2parents to allow me to take her to the lessons. What a3chance(机会)to learn dancing!
One afternoon, I was practicing a new dance in my room, when Maggie walked4.
"What's the matter, Maggie?" I stopped5.
"There'll be a dancing performance in my school,6the boys think I'm slow, and none of them wants to be my partner.7you dance with me for it?" She looked at me, worried.
"You can be a good dancer!" I said to her. "Let's show those people that they have been8."
In the following months, we9every evening for the show. I was having a fantastic time and10Maggie improved a lot.
At last, the big day came. I became11when I heard my parents would come to watch the performance. When the12began, I took a deep breath and tried to calm down. Then we enjoyed dancing to the music, like shining spirits. From the cheering of the crowd, I was sure we 13it.
I was so excited when I saw my14walking up to me. He put his hand on my shoulder.
"Well done, son. I'm glad that you didn't15your dream. Go for it and make us proud."
I'd been waiting for this moment for so long. I knew that the road ahead wouldn't be easy, but I would keep on going. I wanted nothing more in life than to dance.
Success does not belong to a select group of individuals(个人). Success belongs to those who are willing to go after it and try their best to do what they have to do. Here are some useful practical ways for you if you want to be successful.
Desire. Desire is the strong wish to achieve a goal. Without desire you have nothing. Before you can run with desire, your goal must be clear, and it must also be exciting.
Show up. 70% of success in life is showing up. You can't have a best seller, if you have never written a book. You can't get your dream job, if you're afraid to turn in an application. Showing up doesn't guarantee(保证)success, but if you don't show up, you won't succeed.
Fail. Unless you're willing to have a try, fail unhappily, and have another try, success won't happen. To have success you have to do things in the right way, but often the only way to do something right is to first fail at it. As Thomas J. Watson said, a simple formula(公式)for success is to double your failure(失败). So welcome failure, become a student of failure, learn from failure, and soon you will succeed.
Work Harder. Everyone runs, but everyone is not willing to run for an hour every day. Success is not about doing what the common person can't do. It's about doing what the common person is unwilling to do. And on a deeper level, it's about creating habits that the common person is unwilling to create. It's the habit of doing things with excellence that causes success.
Enjoy the Journey. Success is a journey, not a destination(终点). Success is not a certain car or a certain house or a certain happy marriage. Success is the enjoyment of the journey. You have to enjoy the journey.
Someone once said, "Unless you change how you are, you will always have what you've got."
You have to change and you will succeed.
When we look at animals, we know that they are not humans. But how do our closest friends' dogs see us? Do they know that we are humans? Or do they actually think that we are just strange-looking dogs?
You may be surprised to learn that many kinds of animals do not notice such differences very much at all. For example, the cuckoo(布谷鸟)will lay its eggs in the nest of another bird. These birds will feed(喂食)the baby cuckoos, even though they look nothing like their real babies. This is because feeding little ones is quite natural for birds.
Other animals, it seems, will simply divide the world into animals they eat, and animals that eat them. When it comes to dogs, though, there is no simple answer to this question.
Sheepdogs leave their mothers when they are born. They grow up with sheep, and come to see them as their family. For this reason, they never attack(攻击)the sheep. Instead, they help protect them. They probably think the sheep are dogs too, but we can't be certain.
Similarly, if you raise a dog from birth, the way it sees the world will be different from a dog that grows up with other dogs. It will probably think it is the same kind of animal as you. This can even be true of humans. A Russian boy named Ivan Mishukov, born in 1998, was raised by dogs for two years and came to believe that he was a dog himself.
Everyone has eaten instant noodles(方便面). It is very easy to cook it instantly by putting the noodles into the boiling water and adding in ingredient packets, together with other food like eggs or vegetables. However, have you ever wondered whether this is the correct way of cooking it?
When you first take out the noodles from the packaging, you will notice that the noodles are joined together nicely as a piece. In order to make the noodles joined together nicely side by side, it needs some form of wax coating(石蜡涂层)to achieve an attractive instant noodles in front of us.
However, researches have shown that the layer of wax coating on the noodles is quite harmful to our body and we should not eat it too often. It is advisable to have a break of 2-3 days before we start to eat another packet of instant noodles as our body need about 3 days to clear that layer of wax coating away from our body system. Do you know the danger of having too much wax coating stored in our stomach? It will lead to CANCER.
There are two keys points to take note while preparing instant noodles: (1) Wash the instant noodles with warm water first, stir it and pour away the water containing the wax coating. (2) Repeat Step 1 and try to stir the noodles again to wash away the wax coating on the noodles before cooking it in a new pot of water.
Hope this article will help you when you choose to eat instant noodles.
We've just(回来)from a short holiday at Ayers Rock. Ayers Rock is right in the centre of Australia. It's nearly two(千)kilometres from Sydney, so we flew most of the way.
From Sydney we flew over a line of mountains in the(东南). It was rather cloudy at first.
But after we left the mountains behind us, there was(几乎没有)a cloud in the sky. Most of the land below looked like sand, though Dad told me it is greener than you think. There are a lot of(绵羊)down there, "he said, but hardly any people!"
Ayers Rock is a large, low mountain. The day after we(到达), we got up early in the morning before the sun(升起). We started climbing up before it was light. It gets too hot for climbing later. Lower down, at the foot of Ayers Rock, most of the ground is covered with forest and grass, and there are(甚至)a few small rivers. But when you climb higher, you will find nothing grows there at all. We didn't reach the top because it was too hot. All around it is sand. In the evening, when the sun goes down, the sand is(几乎)red. The sky is red too, so it is very, very beautiful.(虽然)we only stayed there for a few days, we had a great time.

There were no classes this afternoon. My classmates all went to People's Park. They had
good time, but I didn't go.
After lunch Aunt Huang came in and she looked(worry). "Grandma is ill," she said, "I must take to hospital. But my baby, … I can't leave her by(her)."
Mum and Dad were not at home. So I said, "Don't worry. I can lookher."
"Thank you, Ling Feng." Then she left.
The baby was about ten(month) old. At first she was asleep. Half an hour later she woke and began to cry. "Don't cry," I said. I talked to her. But she looked at me and cried harder and harder. I turned on the radio. She stopped(cry) and listened to the music. After a few minutes she started to cry again. "Listen to me," I said. I started to sing. The baby watched and listened, and she(not) cry any more. Then I made faces and jumped like a monkey. The baby laughed and laughed.
All that afternoon I jumped and sang and did all kinds of things. Aunt Huang came back, I was so tired.
In the evening, my friend Liu Ming came to see me. I told him the whole story. He laughed.
"You are great! I'm going to tell everyone: „Bring your babies to Ling Feng. can take good care of your babies.'"
